Ongoing Spiritual Growth

When an individual is in submission to the Holy Spirit, His platforms of ministry, and is teachable at heart, they will automatically grow spiritually. One’s own spiritual development should be of utmost importance even above their desire to hold an office in leadership. 2 Peter 3:18 urges believers to grow in grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ, highlighting the necessity of deepening one's relationship with Christ and expanding one's understanding of His teachings. A minister must be committed to ongoing spiritual development; continually seeking to grow in the faith.

Here are things to examine when assessing whether someone is growing spiritually?

• Is there evidence of a healthy prayer life?
• Is there evidence of a healthy study life?
• Does the individual make use of the spiritual help around them, that they may be strengthened and increase in knowledge and wisdom?
• Does the individual have a teachable spirit?
• Does the individual apply the word of God to their trials and tribulations, proving themselves obedient to God?
• Is there an increase in the grace of God in the individual’s life? Are they growing in their knowledge of the Word, and is their ministry wrought with an anointing?

Proverbs 9:9

Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

2 Peter 3:18

But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
