Prayer and Seeking God’s Direction

A lifestyle of prayer is crucial for one to have true fellowship with God and to be successful in ministry. Prayer and holiness are an "unstoppable force" and the "focal point" not just of ministry, but of one's life. Prayer must go beyond occasional activities and random gatherings, it should be a lifestyle rooted in an understanding that God is ever-present. Without prayer, the minister is like a "contractor without a blueprint" - lacking the foundational connection to God's power and plan.

As we assess our ministers we may not be able to regulate their prayer life, however there is always evidence of one who is in touch with God.

• Are they mindful of prayer? Do they see prayer as the solution to various challenges that may arise?
• Is their life a reflection of a fervent relationship with God?
• Is there a fervency for the Word and a passion for spiritual things?
• Does God tend to reveal that He is working with this individual?

Jeremiah 10:21

For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the Lord: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.

Luke 18:1

And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

Colossians 4:2

Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;
