Prayers For Revelation And Enlightenment

James 1:5

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Ephesians 1:2-3 & 16

2 Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:...

When you approach God to ask for spiritual enlightenment or revelation, it is good to confirm that you believe in that which you have already received. Acknowledge the fact that God has blessed the Body of Christ with spiritual blessings and that we are a heavenly people, who are seated with Him in a heavenly place. Assure the Father that you do regard Him as our eternal Father and that we are a part of the Royal Family.

16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;

Though you might intend to pray for your own personal enlightenment, it is quite fitting that you also make mention of others who are called to the Body of Christ. They too need the same understanding and enlightenment of the Word and the salvation they are experiencing.

Ephesians 17-19

17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us- ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power.

Notice the things that weigh heavily on Paul’s mind. He is primarily concerned with the spiritual development of his people (especially during his absence). He makes note that his prayer is that God would pour out the spirit of wisdom and revelation.

A leader must trust God with His people. Their growth depends on the operation of the influence of God in their lives. If the people are obedient to God, He will bless them with spiritual

enlightenment.

• the spirit of revelation

• enlightenment (opening of the eyes of their understanding)

These are indeed attributes we all need to walk in. Therefore, it is imperative that you do not make this prayer a meaningless ritual. But when you pray, if you truly believe that you will receive; both for yourself and those for whom you pray, then your prayer will be most fruitful.

Philippians 1:9-11

9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;

It is equally important that we are in agreement with the Holy Spirit and the Word of God at all times. This allows our judgement of any situation to be the same as that of the Lord. This righteous judgement is manifested, not only in what we say or do, but also in our emotions and thoughts concerning a matter. Therefore, the disposition of our heart is exposed in the presence of the Lord. We must make sure this purity is in our own heart before we attempt to pray for the purity of others.

10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;

11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

Paul makes a point here to mention the necessity of maintaining a good conscience before God and man. Make sure that there is nothing in the Word of God that offends you. And then, you can pray for others to walk free of offense. It must be your heart to pray for the people of God to be filled with righteousness, even those who may be caught in a snare or walking in some type of rebellion. Your love for your fellow members of the Body of Christ is expressed in your prayers. If you never pray for the well-being of the Body, it is hard to believe that you actually love the people of God or those who are ignorant and out of the way.

Colossians 1:9

For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

Make sure that you pray for God’s people to know the will of their Father. Pray that they come into a personal fellowship with the Father, wherein there is no need for a mediator in their relationship with Him. If you walk in these principles, your love for the people of God and those who come to know Him will qualify you for the work of the ministry. In doing so, the Father will grant you whatever you need to work the work of the ministry.

2 Thessalonians 1:11-12

11 Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:

12 That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ

Hebrews 13:20-21

20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Your prayer should always be that God be glorified, not only in you, but also in all who serve Him. Again, this manifests your love for God and the Body of Christ.
