Restoring Fellowship

Restoring fellowship with God comes by agreeing with everything He has testified about Himself and His sons. The Bible says, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). God is a spiritual being. He is also the Father of Spirits (Hebrews 12:9). Therefore, it follows that if God should have sons, they too must be spirits and spiritual.

Romans 8:9 states, But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.

Galatians 5:25 is even bolder, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

Since God’s Spirit is the place where we live, it follows that all our life should flow out of that oneness that we have with Him. As I stated in the previous chapters, our definition of fellowship was wrong. We did not see ourselves through God’s eyes, therefore, we could only relate to our salvation through the eyes of the flesh. We gave flesh preeminence, and took from it our identity. Therefore, we could only relate to God through the infirmity of the flesh. We may shout and scream all day, “I am a New Creature. I am the son of God.” But what does that really mean to us? It is time to accept the fact that flesh is weak and is in no way equal to the spiritual being we truly are. Even the idea of flesh being a part of God’s creation is an insult to Him.

1 Corinthians 15:50

Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

If flesh cannot enter the Kingdom of God, then we should not identify with it beyond its purpose in this season of our sojourning in the earth.

Hebrews 10:19-20

19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

To walk after the flesh in no way implies that the flesh or body is evil and is always seeking to have its way. It is the New Creature who betrays His birthright and usurps authority over the flesh; to use it once again to experience the pleasures of the world. As did the veil in the temple, walking after the flesh separates us from God. It is a middle wall of petition that can only be destroyed by a return to righteousness.

The reality is that we are something greater than a human being. But our decisions are made with humanity in mind. We are the sons whose flesh is given life by the indwelling of the Holy Ghost. We are alive unto God. He brought our bodies alive to serve Him. The body does not have its own mindset or mentality. It is under the control and authority of the New Creature. It is dead to sin, which is the gift of freedom the Father gave us. Therefore, the flesh has no will of its own. It can only obey the steward of the house. If the New Creature is afraid of loss, pain or disappointment, it will manifest in the flesh. If the New Creature is lustful and desirous of those things forbidden to the sons, then that too will manifest in the flesh.

Even the sin of the imagination is enough to break fellowship with the Father. So a man thinketh, so is he. THE FATHER DOES NOT FELLOWSHIP WITH AN IMPURE HEART. He goes so far as to tell us that if we have an ought against our brother or sister, leave our gift at the altar and go to such a one, reconcile and then return unto God. Jesus said we would know the tree by the fruit it bears. The spiritual being cannot be seen by the natural eyes of the world, but His character tells of what sort he is. The commandment seeks to make no provision for flesh.

As we live in the Spirit, we are to also walk in the Spirit. If you would trust God in trials, lack, persecutions and distresses, then you would be able to experience the great peace and comfort He promised. You would find the will of God is a refuge for your life, instead of an offence.

2 Corinthians 5:1-2

1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:

The only way martyrs were able to offer up their lives is because their bodies did not define them. They knew they had another building to get into. This is why they were not afraid to give up this life in the flesh. Our life in this flesh is hid in God. The flesh is our temple, nothing more. We are not indebted to it in any way. It has no power over us and it is not a part of the Kingdom of God. It strictly serves as a dwelling place. But because our life is in the Holy Ghost, nothing done to the flesh affects our relationship with the Father. If we ever lay aside our identity we took back from the flesh, then truly we would fellowship with God.
