The Last Adam

The Lord promised to give us more clarity regarding the Mystery of Christ. One day while searching out the Scriptures for what only God knew, I heard the Lord say, “Jesus was the last Adam.” Of course I went directly to the scripture confirming this known truth; even as I have done here.

1 Corinthians 15:45

And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit

Take note of the fact that Paul refers to Jesus as the Last Adam. This is not coincidental. However, theologians, including myself, thought this to simply refer to Jesus as the Son of Man. Well, it does. But the truth is we did not totally understand all that is implied in that title. Again, the Father is faithful to bring enlightenment. Jesus was created to be the last of Adam’s kind. This is another part of the Mystery that was hidden in God. Bear with me as we go a little deeper into the atonement. The Scriptures below indicate the names of those who are heirs of salvation are written in the book of life.

Philippians 4:3

And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellow labourers, whose names are in the book of life.

Revelation 3:5

He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

The following passages confirm the fact that the names of those who are lost, (those who never come to Jesus for salvation) were never written in the book of life. However, there is an implication that one’s name could, under certain circumstances, be blotted out of the book of life.

Revelation 13:8

And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Revelation 17:8

(The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

The Scriptures also reveal that the book of life was written from the laying of the foundation of the world. This confirms the law of predestination. The Father knew from before the beginning of the world, those who would believe on Jesus to the saving of the soul. Likewise, He also knew those who would not. Therefore, their names were never placed in the book of life. Note that in Rev. 13:8, Johns calls it the book of life of the Lamb slain. There are some schools of thought that hold this to mean that Jesus only died for the sins of those in the Body of Christ. However, Scripture does not support such a doctrine. Consider this:

John 3:16-17

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

1 John 2:2

And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Jesus was the sacrifice for the whole world. He died for the sins of every man, woman, and child who has been or will ever be born into this world. This is why the Scripture refers to Him as the Last Adam.

THE LAST ADAM

2 Corinthians 5:19

To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

If the definition of atonement holds true, then the entire human race was at one with Jesus at His death. He is the seed of Abraham, which makes Him a son of Adam, regarding the flesh. All that were in Adam were now in the body of Jesus. The sins of the entire world were laid upon His flesh. This body He took to the cross to be sacrificed.

Hebrews 10:16-22

16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. 18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. 19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; 21 And having an high priest over the house of God; 22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

This covenant was not just with Israel. His flesh has consecrated a New and Living way for us. This way was made for all Adam’s children. Jesus died so that Adam’s children could have life. The propitiation for our sins was the slaying of His flesh. The body of sin was destroyed. Jesus’ soul paid the price for the rebellion of our soul as well. He suffered the torments of hell for three days and nights. Thus the sin issue was dealt with. But in that God raised Jesus from the dead, all life is found in the Son. Therefore, if any of Adam’s children were to have life, they too must rise from the dead. The death of Christ and His resurrection must be manifested in their mortal bodies. The scripture below confirms this truth.

Romans 6:4-6

4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

All of this was done so that Adam’s children could receive a new life, through the resurrection of Christ Jesus.

Galatians 2:20

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

All who refuse to become partakers of this new life are the walking dead; and their souls are destined for hell. Jesus is the last hope for Adam’s generations. He is the way, the truth, and the life. He is the only way to God. The choice is simple; one can choose death as a son of Adam or life in Jesus as a son of God.
