One Conversation

Conversation - exchange of sentiments, observations, opinions or ideas. Merriam-Webster

God wants to encourage us in knowing that one conversation has the power to bring forth life. It is also important to know that the wrong conversation can bring forth death. The Bible says that all powers that be are ordained by God. There exists the power of light and that of darkness. God has given Satan dominion of the earth for a time and he is trying to win as many as will follow with a conversation of darkness. In fact the devil has been trying since the days of the beginning to persuade mankind that the words God has spoken are untrue, unfulfilling or both. He desires to discredit God by convincing His people that he has a better conversation to offer but we know that God is always the victor in the end. Let us go back to God’s first conversation with man.

Genesis 2:15-17

15. And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

16. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

We can see by reading the preceding passage that God’s conversation with Adam established purpose, which was that Adam reign and rule over the earth. His words also created boundaries for Adam’s life; to partake freely of every tree in the garden except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Had Adam obeyed God’s words, he would have lived forever. We can learn from this the principle of a Godly conversation. A conversation with God will:

1. Establish purpose for and in us.

2. Establish the boundaries for a righteous and holy life

3. End in reward if obeyed

As long as Adam obeyed God, he and Eve enjoyed all the pleasures of life in the garden. They enjoyed a relationship with God, peace, comfort, all the food they could eat, dominion over every living creature and companionship with each other. They only had to reach out and would forever partake of the fruit of eternal life with God. Eternal life will always come out of a conversation with God for He is the one who can grant it. When we look into our own lives, the conversations we had with God gave us lives some of us never dreamed of. He has blessed us beyond measure and made our paths straight. Whenever we are obedient to God, we are at peace in our minds and we can see clearly in this darkened world. It is when we disobey and hearken to a conversation that is an alternative to what God has spoken, that we find ourselves confused and without purpose. We begin, as Adam did, groping in darkness and trying to etch out a life for ourselves. This is death and is always produced by the words of Satan.

Genesis 3:1

Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

A conversation with the devil will:

1. Invoke compromise in the heart

2. Create lust, pride and iniquity

3. Result in death

When Eve gave credence to what the serpent told her, she compromised the authority she had to instruct him to be quiet, after all he was a creature made subject to her and Adam’s authority. She continued to listen and lust for more power was gendered in her heart. She began to desire to be as God and sinned by eating of the fruit. When Adam and Eve disobeyed, they became totally subjected to the dictates of evil. This is how the devil deceives, he offers us something that God has not promised and if we are discontent with what God has given and promised, we compromise . The greatest part of the deception is the devil cannot make good on his promises where as God can.

1 John 2:15-17

15. Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

16. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

17. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

We established before that the enemy has dominion over the earth. The only things he can offer are those things found in the world. We in turn pay the price of our souls when we obey him instead of God. That which God offers is a sure foundation and when we obey Him, we will reap everything He has said. We must accept that God’s conversation is the right choice.
