The Prophetic Voice

Chapter Two

In the victory song which Deborah and Barak sang after the Lord caused them to win the battle, she makes mention of the spiritual battle that was fought in the heavens which enabled the children of Israel to win against their enemies. They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera (Judges 5:20).

We must take notice of the fact that the words of Deborah were able to impact the spirit world. The word “stars” used here is the Hebrew word for princes. It is the princes in the heavenlies that fought the battle against satanic angels or ruling principalities of the enemies of Israel. We have seen this before in scripture. Daniel prayed and the angel of the Lord, Gabriel was dispatched to bring the answer to his prayer. However, Gabriel spent twenty-one days warring in the heavens with the ruling principality of Persia, the nation defined as the enemy of the people of God.

Daniel 10:12-13

12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.

13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.

The angels of the Lord and the satanic ruling princes of darkness all have their courses as Deborah was privileged to see. The word “courses” is the Hebrew word for highways, paths or “turnpiked.” As the angels of the Lord travel throughout the heavens specific routes are developed according to the thrones and dominions of principalities on both sides of darkness and light.

Colossians 1:16

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

The stars of God are the watchers and protectors of His will in the face of the principalities, established by Satan to attack and destroy the will of God. The prophetic voice is prayer, prophecy, or prophesying that is within the boundaries of the faith and the proclaimed will of God. When such is the case, then that voice falls under the protection of the angelic host and is able to provoke war in the heavens. However, it is not the prophet or the prophetic servant who has the authority over the angelic host, it is the Lord Himself. Nevertheless, every word spoken by the people of God is prophetic when it is spoken within the boundaries of the faith, which simply means according to the will of God. The movement of the host in the heavens is to protect and establish the prophetic word in the earth. If the battle is won in the heavens it can be won in the earth. Thus, we come to the purpose and operation of the prophetic voice.

Ephesians 6:10-11

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

For many years we have contributed this entire passage to the warring with the devil and his cohorts for the salvation of our own souls. But the truth is, we are not able to enter into such warfare until the disposition of our being is morally and spiritually secure. It is the first nine verses that instruct us as to our obedience to the faith, but it is after obedience that we are now able to fight the devil. We must win our own souls first by standing strong in the truth. Then will we be able to wreak havoc in the kingdom of heaven for the souls of others.

Jude 20-23

20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

22 And of some have compassion, making a difference: (Consider that some may be weak in the faith. Build them up in the truth with love and understanding).

23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

We are not to compromise by allowing anything in the household of faith that is not the will and way of the Lord. It is with strict reference that the souls of many will be saved. The influences of the times we live in demand the uncompromised proclamation of the Word.

Ephesians 6:12-20

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

We are the soldiers of the Lord. Walking in the Spirit is the securing of our own souls. It is the Christ we stand in who guarantees our entrance into the Kingdom at the end. It is the promise of God that Christ is able to keep that which is committed unto Him. Therefore, once the sin issue is dealt with in our own lives simply by walking in the Spirit of Christ, then we are now able to enter into spiritual warfare with the powers of darkness that hold those who are ignorant, lost and out of the way in captivity. If we stand steadfast in the liberty within we have been set free, then it is a certainty that we will be able to challenge the hand of the enemy in the lives of many.

2 Corinthians 10:3-6

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

4(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

All truth is parallel. When we walk in obedience to the presence of God within, we will be able to pull down the strongholds in the lives of others. As long as we are warring with sin within ourselves we will never be fit to enter the heavenlies through prayer in the Spirit to bring deliverance to others. We will only pray and hope that the sovereignty of God is in agreement with our attempts to fight for the souls of others.
