What is an Intercessor?

Hebrews 4:14-16
14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God; let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 5:1-3
1 For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:
2 Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity. 3 And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.
Who is an Intercessor ?
An intercessor is one who:
• Believes God, in spite of what the situation looks like.
• Trust God even if that trust brings them face to face with the possibility of losing or gaining that which they hold precious.
• Is willing to deny himself – You must not consider any profit or loss to yourself. Your focus must always be on glorifying the Father and the spiritual well-being of your fellowman.
• Fears the Lord. To fear the Lord “is to hate evil: pride and arrogance, the evil way, and the forward mouth, do I hate” (Proverbs 8:13).
We who have the Spirit of Christ are now His ambassadors and are acting in His stead. We are responsible for reconciling mankind to God. The thing that qualifies us as the true intercessors is that we walk in the Spirit and are willing to deny ourselves, as Jesus did, in order to establish others in the Kingdom of God.
A true intercessor is one who does not regard his own life, even to the point of losing it, and is driven by revealing the love of the Father to those who offend. Our ministry, given by God, is not to impute or charge others with their sin. When we walk in the Spirit, we walk in fellowship with the Father. It is only then that we have the sentiment of Christ and can now be in a position to restore mankind.
Our purpose is to reconcile the lost to Christ, as this is fulfilling the purpose of the Father (ministry of reconciliation). As we walk in the Word, we walk in the character of Jesus Christ. Meekness is an attitude of humility toward God and gentleness toward men, springing from the recognition that God is in control. Meekness is a characteristic of the Spirit. It is also defined as power under control or to endure injury from others with patience and without resentment. It is the position from which a son of God works the ministry of reconciliation. Meekness is void of self- exaltation. It is imperative to work the ministry in love. If we are ever going to experience our sonship, it will be done through love.
Preparing to Become an Intercessor
Galatians 5:25
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. WE LIVE IN THE SPIRIT.
This is the work of the Father. He has placed us in the Holy Ghost thus enabling us to become one with His mind and heart. This operation of the faith of God has also destroyed that middle wall of petition that stood between us by making us one with each other as well as one with the Father and Son. Prayer for others must be in our hearts. Our communion with the Father must be from within ourselves for the Father and the Son are present with us by His Spirit.
Revelation 3:20
I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
It is natural for us to commune with the Father and to bring the Father’s input into our decisions, situations, circumstances and relationships, on a daily basis. We should always be mindful that we are able to meet with Him in the temple. When we do, the outer shell is led by what is going on at the supplication table within. PRAYER IS A LIFESTYLE! It is communion in the temple. So, if we begin to entreat our Father as if He lived in the temple (whose temple we are), we would always have communication with Him.
Fellowship with the Father
1 John 1:3
That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
John states that the life that is within us keeps us in fellowship with the Father and the Son. If prayer is placed on any level other than fellowship, then we are not really praying. Prayer is fellowship with the Father and this fellowship should be a lifestyle.
WE ARE IN THE FATHER AND THE FATHER IS IN US.
We should always be mindful that God hears us, knows our thoughts and the intents of our heart. Prayer is just being who we are. If we walk in the Spirit, then we would know that we are in constant fellowship with God. Prayer must come back to the level of fellowship and supplication. Supplication means we are connected to the supplicant. The Lord said he would sup with us. Our strength is drawn from His presence. Therefore, our strength, supplication and intercession must come from within.
