Do Blessings Corrupt?

God delights in ensuring His children have joy and fulfillment. To do so, He meticulously examines our hearts and blesses us with those things that align us with His purpose. These blessings, whether spiritual or natural, become a spring of joy in the heart. However, there are times when God will withhold something because He is aware of the corruption it can cause. The scripture says,

1 Corinthians 10:13

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Before granting any blessing, God examines our hearts to ensure that we are spiritually capable of handling it. If we receive the blessing we should still be able to walk in Him, free from distractions and pride. Even though God goes through great lengths to ensure we are able to overcome everything we face, we can still choose to falter at those things we have the ability to overcome.

Consider Lucifer and Adam, who both walked upright and perfect before God until they created their own lust. Both became exalted in their blessings and disobeyed God’s ordinance; Lucifer became consumed with his beauty and wisdom and desired God’s place of worship for himself; Adam sided with his wife Eve, in eating the forbidden fruit rather than correcting her and risking their relationship. It is evident that they did not have to fall because they were first walking in righteousness, however, both created their own lusts in their heart, and departed from God.

In dealing with His sons, God is even more mindful of this. It is a given that He will never give us more than we can bear. However, if you are dissatisfied with what He has given you, you will follow Adam and Lucifer and pursue that which God has prohibited. Agree with God’s path for your life and true contentment and peace will fill your heart.
