Spiritual Maturity

Bible Teachers International is a ministry that is known for constantly piecemealing the Word of God. Additionally, the ministry has been graced by God to influence many, both young and old. However, the fact that an individual is showing signs that the Word is having a work in their heart does not equate to them being fit for ministry.

1 Timothy 3:6

Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

The scripture warns us not to appoint babes or novices as leaders. A novice is an unlearned and inexperienced convert. Paul foresees that their lack of experience in the Word, in dealing with people, and with the wiles of the enemy will eventually lead to their downfall. There are some who simply cannot handle a title, because it causes them to be overtaken with pride. To defend against this, scripture instructs us not to ordain them in their novice state, but rather to have them wait on their ministry, being discipled and showing proof of their ministry in the process.

In order for a babe to become mature, they must be able to discern truth from error - light from darkness. Constant discipleship in the Word along with their righteous stance in their trials will facilitate speedy spiritual development. It is also important that along with these, individuals are exposed to training in their gift, because without training, a minister may never learn how to administer or operate in their gift.

Hebrews 5:12-14

12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

2 Timothy 2:15

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
