What Is Your Calling?

The first order of business in this lesson is to clear up the “many are called, few are chosen” concept. This statement was made at the end of a parable in which Jesus likened the Kingdom of Heaven to that of a marriage supper prepared by a father for his son. He sent out his servants to bid all the son’s kinsmen to come; but they would not and also proved to be unworthy. Thus, he had them bid others, even strangers to come. Some came, but many did not. Therefore, many are called to salvation, but few are chosen according to the foreknowledge of God, the Father.

Matthew 22:14

14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

This verse has nothing to do with being called to serve in the ministry. Its focus is on those called to salvation.

Your calling can be defined as your placement in the Body of Christ.

1 God’s government allows us to work together as one Body.

Ephesians 4:15-16

15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint

supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

2 The gifts are set in the Body to form order and governance.

3 God plays a crucial role in helping you to identify your calling.

He guides us through His Holy Spirit, also known as the Comforter. God’s purpose for our lives is spiritual and can only be discerned by those who walk in the Spirit. As leaders in the Body of Christ, we must accept and embrace the difference between natural (doing that which is motivated by our own personal desires), and spiritual (that which is commanded by the Holy Ghost). Furthermore, God has a specific plan for each of us. He has chosen us to do His will in our spheres of influence. This calling is not always easy to understand or embrace, as it often involves a route in which faith and character will be greatly tested. However, we are not called to debate these instructions but to bring clarity and discuss the implementation of the plan for global evangelism. The Holy Spirit plays a crucial role in guiding individuals to their specific calling. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth and provides personal guidance to each believer, directing their spiritual growth, movement, and ministry.

Ephesians 4:4-6

There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6 One God and Father of all, who isabove all, and through all, and in you all.

This guidance is not the responsibility of the prophets of God, but rather a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the manifestation of Jesus Christ, guiding our feet into the way of peace.

Luke 1:78-79

78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,

79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Therefore, believers are encouraged to listen and wait for His guidance in dealing with the Body of Christ, and to guard against anything that hinders the work of the Spirit in their lives.

Having a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit means acknowledging His presence in your life and seeking His guidance in all things. It involves

developing a fellowship with Him, just as a father has with his son. This relationship is not just about prayer, but also about understanding the benefits that come with this spiritual sonship, such as the spiritual gifts given to us by God (Ephesians 1:3).

The Holy Spirit is there to comfort and guide us, to show us things to come, and to empower us over all the power of the enemy. He is the spirit of love and

holiness, understanding and conviction. He is the manifestation of Jesus Christ in our lives (John 16:7, John 14:28-29). Therefore, having a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit means honoring, blessing, referencing, and trusting Him in all aspects of our lives. I cannot express how important it is to know the voice of God in ministry. It is of

the utmost importance that you are able to hear God and know that it is God that you are hearing. Therefore, I am recommending that you get your hands on one of the most powerful books I have ever written. “Hearing God.”

4 It is God who sets us in the Body as it pleases Him. Therefore, in his placement of each member of the Body, He is also mindful as to placing you in a position that begins your measure of ministry.
