Where Are The Prophets of God?

It is a fact that the world is in chaos. People are frightened and uncertain as to the future. Even the people of God are perplexed and confused. So where are the prophets of God today? Where are the men and women who are supposed to have a word from the Lord? A word that forecasts the mind and heart of God for His people. Without a word of assurance from God the people of God will surely sink into despair and sin. That is what is happening right now as I write these words.

I want to put you in remembrance of something. We are the children of God. We are citizens of the Kingdom of God. Though we live in the world, we are not of the world. Ok. So, how are we to know what to expect from the world, as well as from our God? How are we to know how to navigate and dispense the gospel, if we don’t receive guidance from our Master? It is not the will of the Father that we are blind to His plans.

Why Do The Prophets Err In Their Prophesying?

There are several reasons the prophets of God are not able to hear and speak the

mind of God.

1. Personal Sin:

The prophets of God must be of a serious disposition and not given over to joking and vain babbling. The prophet must consistently pour themselves into God by abandoning his/her own agendas, ways, desires and ambition. They must be given over to declaring the oracles of God. These oracles must come from a vessel that delights in them.

If the prophets of God all met the criteria above, then their prophesying would carry the anointing that is able to pierce the hearts of men.

The scripture below gives insight as to the qualifications for working in the prophetic ministry.

John 14:21

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me:

and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

In this manifestation is the undeniable presence and work of God. This is how God rewards His servants in this dispensation of grace and truth. He manifests His power through them, especially through the gifts He has given. But the son of God must not be a vessel of dishonor. He must walk in obedience to every word that has come from God. This is simply walking in the Spirit. Jesus made sure we understood that not even He was not exempt from obedience.

John 15:10-12

10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have

kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.

11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and

that your joy might be full.

12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

Take note also in the above passage; if we want to walk in the joy of the Lord as it pertains to life and ministry, we too must obey the commandments of God. It is very simple. We must love the Father with all our heart and one another with the same fervency.

Why Do The Prophets Err In Their Prophesying?

2. Rejecting Apostolic Order:

I want to deal with the number one reason the Body of Christ is not entertaining a truly profound prophetic ministry. For the most part the Body of Christ is not operating according to the order of God.

1 Corinthians 12:28

And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

Paul makes it clear that the apostle was the first gift set in the Body of Christ. Afterwards, came the prophets. Now we know that God is very intentional in His doings. This order of the gifts is explained by our Lord as He spoke with the apostles.

Matthew 13:11

He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the

mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

If indeed the apostle was the first gift to be set in the church; then it follows that it is the apostles’ doctrine that reveals the mystery of Christ, defines salvation, and sets the boundaries of the faith. This may all sound like a lot of theology that seems confusing, but the truth is, it is quite simple.

The apostles were the only people on the planet that were given to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of God. In this mystery of the Kingdom of God is the entire content of the New Testament.

If the prophets are to confirm the word given to the apostles, then they too must be of one heart with God and the apostles of God. There can be no division; for the confirmation of the message, must come from the singleness of their heart. They must be living epistles, able to be read by men.

Therefore, whatever gifts were set in the Body afterwards, must rely upon a knowledge of the mystery set forth by the apostles. Consequently, the function of all the other gifts are tied to the revelations given to the apostles. To reject apostolic order is to reject a complete understanding of the mystery of Christ.

Prophetic Order

The prevailing mindset in the Body of Christ today seems to suggest that the prophet is above the order God set in the church. He has no accountability, not even to his pastor. Nevertheless, we have scripture that reveals the governance of the prophet’s ministry in the church.

1 Corinthians 14:29-33

29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.

30 If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first

hold his peace.

31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and

all may be comforted.

32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.

33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

There is also another aspect of ‘order’ that is rarely, if ever, mentioned in describing the prophet’s ministry. The mystery of Christ is the theme of the New Covenant. It is essential that those who are given the gift of prophecy be knowledgeable of that mystery.

Ephesians 3:2-5

2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:

3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote

afore in few words,

4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the

mystery of Christ)

5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;

The mystery of Christ is poured into the church by the apostles. They are the ones first entrusted with it. That is why the prophet’s gift is referred to as secondary. All the recipients of the gifts of God rely on their understanding of the Word of God given by the apostles. As for the prophets of God, one might wonder why they are placed in the above scripture in a way that seems to make them equal or a better word would be the ‘same’ as the apostles.

The answer is simple. When the apostles received the revelation of the mysteries of God, they alone received it. The apostles then poured that word into the pastors, teachers, evangelists, and yes, even the prophets. The prophets of God must be taught the Word of God, otherwise, they would not fully understand their own prophesying. So yes, the prophets receive revelation from God, but that revelation does not stand alone. It is always a confirmation of the Word of God.

“Name it and claim it,” does not confirm the Word of God; nor does, “the old man or lower nature” war against one’s higher nature. It is not a word that true apostles pour into the Body.

Yet, there are those professing to be the prophets of God, who prophesy such things. It is the ‘Order’ of God in the church that calls for a judging of the word spoken by the prophets.

Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge (1 Corinthians 14:29).

Let us do all things decently and in order.

3. Entangling Themselves With The Affairs Of The World:

Many of the American prophets could be used as prototypes as to what not to do with your prophetic ministry. Though I am very cognizant of the sensitivity of the people of God when speaking of their national elections, we cannot deny the fact that God brought many of them to an open shame.

The truth is, the prophets of God, or rather many who profess to be prophets of the Most High, gave themselves wholeheartedly over to their party affiliations. They were no longer prophets speaking the mind and heart of the Father. They became politicians using their platforms and the nature of their gift to campaign for their candidates. Thus, they prophesied an outcome of the 2020 election that did not come to pass.

Embarrassed by their error, many of them ran for cover. They have hidden their faces from the Body of Christ. We are on the cusp of another national election, but you can’t get a peep out of the men and women who proclaimed themselves to be the voice of God.

Have their voices been silenced? Or is it that they have come to realize the fact that they do not have a sure word from God? Yet they prophesied in His name. They declared things that God did not say. And now it is manifest that He did not say the things they attributed to Him.

Prophets, pastors, and evangelists alike, were all caught up in the emotional wantings, and the lust for political power. They wanted their party to rule in this world. They used God’s pulpits and other platforms to forecast their trust, and the ability of their party to secure their livelihood and political agendas.

Now they did all of this in spite of this scripture . . . No man that warreth entangleth

himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to

be a soldier (2 Timothy 2:4).
