Prayers Of Ordination

Acts 6:3-7

3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priestswere obedient to the faith.

Acts 14:21-23

21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,

22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

23 And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

Acts 13:1-3

1 Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

3 And when they had fasted and prayed, laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

Below is a list of the principles we should be able to gather from the above scriptures concerning ordination.

1. The laying on of hands in an ordination is either for the stirring up of a gift or the impartation of a gift.

2. In every instance we see the laying on of hands done by a member of the clergy.

3. Ordination is the setting forth of certain members of the Body for a particular work of the ministry.

4. Those who are ordained are commended to the Lord for service. That which they do, will be a manifestation of the power of God working through them.

5. The ordained are now co-workers with Christ.

6. The laying on of hands in an ordination reveals that the source of power and spiritual authority is not by the one laying hands, but it is the Father who sets gifts in the Body as it has pleased Him.
