Whatsoever Ye Shall Ask

Summary Scripture:

John 16:23

23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

For many years I wrote the revelations I heard of the Father. I would pause and ponder over them in amazement and humility, knowing that it was the love of God and his mercy that afforded me the privilege to serve him. But while I pondered the message, I could sometimes hear a still, small voice somewhere in my heart saying, “It is the knowledge of God.” This happened to me year after year; especially after a fresh word was given to us. Though I was writing and ministering the revelations given to me, I didn’t quite understand this voice I kept hearing. But I knew it meant that there was something I had not yet comprehended. Nevertheless, the Father is faithful.

While sitting at lunch one day, I heard the Father say, “It is the knowledge of God you seek to teach.” “Oh, my Lord,” my soul replied. I heard and comprehended for the first time His meaning. Indeed, it is the knowledge of God that brings us to a perfect walk in the Spirit. It is the knowledge of God that allows Faith to manifest itself with power and might through the new creature.

To fully understand what the Father is saying to us, we must go to some scriptures that have been overlooked as to the depths of their meaning. Let’s consider again Jesus’ testimony of our works in ministry.

John 6:28

28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

It is encouraging to know that the disciples were concerned about the same things we were, as it pertained to working ministry. They saw the miracles and the wonders performed by their Master. They understood that He was teaching or training them to step into the ministry at some point. But how can we do what you do? We believe that you are the Son of God, and that God is working with you. But how do we get Him to work with us?

John 6:29

29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

This is so powerful. All the sons of God have to do is open their hearts to believe (agree, obey, or commit), to the Christ in them. We have been given a promise that He will lead and guide us. He is not a liar. He will do as He said He would. But why is it so hard to believe this? I submit that the problem is not in the failure of Christ to deliver His guidance, but rather in our lack of fellowship with Him that we might be able to see and hear what He would say to us.

John 7:38-39

38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

The sons of God must go past the fact that they are saved and believe the whole report. We must believe in the purpose of God for leaving us in this hostile environment to work the works that reveal the existence of the Kingdom of Heaven.

John 14:12-14

12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

Jesus not only testifies of greater works; He promised that whatsoever we ask in His name, it shall be given… Let us not ignore or avoid this passage. Let’s ask the hard questions: Is this a reality or not? Can we depend on the word of God here or not? Will God fulfill this promise to answer us or not? Let’s see what the Apostles taught...

1 John 5:10-12

10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

This is the record: the sons that have received Christ have been received into the eternal life that is God. The Scripture says, For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell (Colossians 1:19). It is in the following chapter that the writer makes it clear, saying, For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power (Colossians 2:9-10). Simply put, it pleased God that every son born into Christ, also enters into the Godhead. Thus, each of us became a part of the eternal life of God. For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named (Ephesians 3:14-15).

Ephesians 3:14-15

14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,

We are now a part of the family of God. This is the record in heaven. The Father has begotten children through Jesus Christ. God has a family. If we are to work the works of God, we must first believe in who we are. If so, we would not approach the Father as a stranger needing his help in ministry. We would know that the Father is glorified when the sons are able to reveal him to the world through works that can only be done by a Living God. Let’s continue in the passage:

1 John 5:13-15

13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

We are not able to ask until we believe in the workmanship of the Father in our lives. We are in the Son and the Son is in us. Therefore, we are eternal in nature and members of the Royal Family.

Acts 3:6-7

6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have, give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

The Father is glorified when Jesus is able to do a work in the earth. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. (John 14:13-14)

13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

In the Name of Jesus

While writing this, the Lord asked me, “Do you understand why all work on earth must be done in the name of my Son Jesus?” I relied, “I think so.” But He did not hesitate. The Father explained to me that Jesus willingly suffered for the sins of the world; but before His death, He prayed. These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. (John 17:1-2).

John 17:1-2

1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:

2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him

Acts 2:36

36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

Acts 3:13

13 The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go.

Acts 3:16

16 And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

When the sons of God propose to do the works of God, such work must not only be done by Jesus, but it must also be done in his name. This speaks to the world that God has raised his first begotten from the dead. Therefore, the Father and the Son are glorified. Faith worketh by Love He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him (John 14:21).

John 14:21

21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

Jesus will continue to do the works of God through us, if we love the Lord with all our heart, and our fellow man as ourselves. We are to be confident in the name o f Christ. However, the scriptures also explain that we are to be confident in knowing that we have eternal life. He stresses this point because only those who are in Christ have inherited eternal life. This is important because there are those who will go into the millennium as natural men and women. Some will also enter into eternity with natural or terrestrial bodies. These will have everlasting life, but must partake of the trees of life planted on each side of the River of the Water of Life that proceeds out of the throne of God. The leaves of the trees of life are good for the healing of the nations. Though eternal life is everlasting, everlasting life is not always eternal. We are the sons of God, members of the Royal family. We have no need of healing. We are the source of life and light. This is the great love the Father has for us, that we should be sons. We are indestructible. We shall never die. In that day we will never be sick or infirmed in any way. We will be superior to the angels and all who dwell on the earth. We are the children of the Most High.
