When Your Money Is No Good: The Collapse of Earthly Security

There is a conversation that most financial advisors, retirement planners, and investment strategists are not having with their clients. It is a conversation about a scenario that no spreadsheet can model and no diversified portfolio can protect against. It is the scenario described in Revelation 13, where a world leader rises to power and implements a global economic system that makes it impossible for anyone who does not bear his mark to buy or sell anything at all.

Revelation 13:16-17 states: 'And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.' Read that carefully. All. Both small and great. Rich and poor. The size of your bank account will not exempt you. The diversity of your investment portfolio will not protect you. The number of properties you own will not give you leverage. When the mark of the beast system is fully implemented, millions of dollars will be of no use to a believer who refuses to receive the mark.

This is not a fringe theological position. This is the plain reading of the biblical text. The Antichrist will be given great authority, and the book of Revelation tells us that this authority will last for a significant period. Revelation 13:5 says: 'And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.' Forty-two months is three and a half years. For at least three and a half years, this system will be in operation, and during that time, the Antichrist will be given authority to make war with the saints and to overcome them.

Now I want to ask you a direct question: what is your 401(k) going to do for you during those forty-two months? What is your pension plan going to provide when the global economic system has been restructured around a mark that you, as a follower of Jesus Christ, cannot and will not receive? The retirement fund you have been faithfully contributing to for thirty years will be inaccessible to you. The business you have built over decades will be shut down. The financial security you have worked so hard to create will evaporate overnight.

An empty bank lobby with a locked vault door and an abandoned briefcase on the floor, lit by cold light.

I am not saying this to create panic. I am saying this to create clarity. The things that the world trusts in for security are the very things that will be removed. And God, in His mercy, is giving His people advance warning so that they can reorient their trust and their investment before it is too late.

Here is the contrast that God draws for His people. He does not leave us without a promise. The promise is this: God will preserve both the life and the soul of those who invest in His Kingdom. Those who give their resources, their energy, and their lives to the advancement of the gospel will find that God becomes their provider, their protector, and their sustainer in a way that no financial institution ever could be. He will not abandon those who have abandoned their own security for the sake of His purposes.

But there is also a warning. God does not make this promise to those who share the world's fears, the world's pursuits, and the world's mindset. Those who are consumed with building their own financial security, who are living as though this world is their permanent home and the accumulation of earthly wealth is their primary goal, those people are on their own when the systems they trusted collapse. God does not promise to preserve those who have aligned themselves with the world's way of thinking.

This is not a call to financial irresponsibility. It is a call to a radical reorientation of trust. You can still be a good steward of what God has given you. You can still provide for your family. But your ultimate trust, your deepest sense of security, must be in God alone, not in the systems and structures that are about to be shaken. And the practical expression of that trust is generosity toward the Kingdom: giving to support the spread of the gospel, funding evangelists, supporting missions, and refusing to hoard what God has given you for your own comfort while the harvest is ripe and the laborers are few.
