Chapter 4: God is Not Mocked Part One 21

The days of this world are numbered. The Lord is truly perfecting a church that will give witness to the Word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.

St. John 17:22-23

22. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
23. I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

The glory Christ gave us is the Holy Ghost. By it we are able to live a perfected life. But in doing so, the world will know that God did indeed send forth Jesus to the earth. This is the purpose and responsibility placed on the church. We are the only evidence that Jesus is the Son of God. But if we live as sinners, we forfeit our ability to validate such testimony. But to dishonor the Father is not without consequence as some seem to think.

Galatians 6:7-9

7. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
8. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
9. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

There are three very profound definitions of the word mocked.

1. To treat somebody or something with scorn or contempt. Those who willfully turn away from the truth look upon the scriptures with contempt. They have much contempt for the route the Lord has commanded them to take. They scorn the truth that opposes their wantonness. Nevertheless, God is not mocked and contempt for Him or His Word is vain, foolish and places one’s soul in the jaws of hell.
2. To mimic somebody in a way that is intended to make that person appear silly or ridiculous. Once upon a time, God placed a preacher in my ministry whose testimony was that he had preached for many years things that just were not the truth until he came to this ministry. This is the testimony many of us have today. This is not to way imply that no one else ministers such truth, this is just the route God placed us on.

This preacher grew in the knowledge of the truth and traveled throughout the ministry touching all the churches with his measure. Nevertheless, he could not relinquish the wantonness for that which was forbidden by God. Every two or three years he would go in hot pursuit of the thing he wanted. Finally, he left again to live comfortably in the sin he chose. But in his arrogance he declared the ministry God used to teach him all that he knows, to be nothing more than a merry-go-round.

Another minister who was also offended by the truth agreed and mockingly said he was sick of a ministry that doesn’t have anything but a message. I listened with a grieved spirit as they attempted to mock the Word and that the very word they testified God used to change their own lives. These have gone shipwreck and are overthrowing the souls of others. God will have the last say so in the matter for He has esteemed His Word above His name.

3. To prevent something from succeeding in a way that causes frustration or humiliation. Those who pervert the truth and preach their lust for doctrine hold vehement poison in their hearts for those who stand firmly anchored in the truth. God is a God of peace. I was invited to do a meeting for a pastor once who held the meeting at another pastor’s church due to the fact that his facility was deemed too small. Well, the host pastor of the borrowed church encouraged his entire membership to attend the meeting. The anointing of the Word was very strong in the meeting and the people confessed that they were extremely blessed by it.

A few months later the pastor who invited me out the first time had gotten his own facility and wanted me to come and do another meeting. But when the people from the borrowed church heard that I was coming back they came to the meeting. During the course of the meeting some of them declared they wanted to remain under this word. They testified of the Word coming alive to them and reviving their spirit. Three of them joined that church during the meeting and to make matters more complicated the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said one of them has the gift of the pastor and to lay hands on him to stir up the gift. This ordination is the handiwork of the Spirit and not the discretion of men. I simply obeyed the Lord. Whether the young man ever submits to the gift is entirely between him and the Lord. Though I want everyone to know the truth and be blessed by my ministry; my heart went out for the pastor of the borrowed church. I knew this would or could be a tremendous offense to him. Therefore, I would not leave the city without going to meet with him. I took a witness. I sat with the pastor and his wife for at least an hour or more assuring him that it was in no way my intent to destroy his church and that I wanted to help him in any way that I could. At the end, the pastor said to me, “Dr. Banks, I know that you came to me today in love and I also know this conversation is of God. His wife agreed and my spirit was free. We prayed together and had a nice fellowship. The spirit of peace rested upon us all.

But as the definition says, those who mock God and godliness will do anything to prevent the will of God from succeeding in order to further their own personal agendas. When the pastor of the church which these people joined became suspicious and paranoid that I might step on his measure by setting up more works around the city (which God has also ordained), he went to the pastor of the borrowed church and reopened the wound and poured iniquity upon iniquity into it. I watched a sweet little man whom the Lord loves and who loves the Lord struggle to keep his heart pure but forbidden by the cunning craftiness of men.

Of course they have made me to be the devil and they in turn are all great apostles about to embark on miracle working missions commissioned by God Himself. I am so glad I know and trust the Word of God. It is my comfort in this matter. I know that evil will never triumph over good and that all the efforts of men to abort the righteousness of God will fail. God is not mocked and He will protect, validate and vindicate righteousness. I will continue to pray for the precious pastor of the borrowed church that he may once again remember my spirit and the peace he experienced that day. I pray God will purge him of the iniquity and bring him back to love, peace and grace.

I also pray for those brutish ones who allow themselves to become instruments of unrighteousness and tools of Satan. Peradventure, God will grant them repentance that they might deliver themselves from the snare of the enemy who has taken them captive again at his will.
