An EXPOSITION on “God of gods”

It is an awesome thing to hear directly from the Lord. There is something about His words that can carry you for years. I have had many such encounters with the Lord over the years; but the latest visitation was most encouraging and timely. “Tell my people, they are gods to this world. I have set them so. But if they will not live as a god in this world, they will not qualify to live as one in the next.”

Firstly, it is imperative for me to mention that this is the message that the Holy Spirit has poured into the Church for this time. Without a doubt, it is not a new message; rather, it is the essential thread of the entire New Covenant. It was not sent to puff us up, rather it was sent to humble us and cause us to identify the new creature we truly are. If we comprehend who we truly are we will be able to see the ease in walking in the Spirit. With that said, it is crucial that this is what is ministered in the churches. God has poured out this truth to us not for a conference, but so the Body of Christ can be taken to the standard of the Word. Therefore, it is very necessary for us to be repetitive in this season – repetition is safe. Teach this truth, until you are sure that those under your influence understand it and, more importantly, are a demonstration of it.

God Almighty has called the Church gods. (I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. Psalm 82:6). This is very important. If not, He would not have said so. In the paragraph above, God is admonishing the Church as to how they will qualify to be saved in the end – we must live as gods. When teaching a message like this it is good for us to be aware when the term “god” is used, it is with a common “g”.

This is important, for God has declared that He is the only God.

Isaiah 44:6- 8

6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel,and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

7 And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people?

and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them.

8 Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses.

Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.

Isaiah 45:5-6

5 I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:

6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.

• A god is an idol, created (whether conceptualized or physically formed) by men to be worshiped and esteemed. Men exalt these instruments and ideologies above themselves and serve them as God.

There are also times in the Scriptures where even angelic beings are referred to as gods. As a consequence, it is a common perception in the Church that we could never be the gods that God is referring to in the Scriptures. As such, many saints may not quickly embrace the term gods for the Church. The use of the term god to refer to saints is very uncommon in the Church world.

So, when teaching you must deal with the perceptions by using scripture, while being careful not to stifle the essence of the Word that God has given.

In addressing this, you must first acknowledge it is a very valid perception and moreover, it is scriptural for usually when the term god is used it is referring to idolatry. God indeed spoke concerning these idols. He declared they were not gods. He never accepted anything man made as a god or as gods. They should not be worshiped and the worshiping of such is blasphemy. (Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Exodus 20:3)

Seeing this concept is true and very scriptural, when teaching the message “Ye are gods” you must first deal with the perception of ‘gods’. You will find as you study Chapter 1 from the ‘Ye are gods’ Study Guide, you will see it explains thoroughly what a god is not. Having scoured the Scriptures, we see clearly God never acknowledged anyone or anything man produced as God.

Acts 19:26

Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands

Deuteronomy 4: 26-28

26 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto ye go over Jordan to possess it; ye shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed.

27 And the LORD shall scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen, whither the LORD shall lead you.

28 And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

Having established that God regards the works of man’s hands as gods, there are scriptures which clearly declare God Almighty to be the God of gods. It is interesting that as far back as the writings of Moses we see something peculiar.

Deuteronomy 10:16-17

16 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.

17 For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward:

Daniel 2:47

The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret.

Psalm 136:2

O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for ever.

How can this be? He said there are no other gods. He is the only true and living God. But here, through three of His prophets, He acknowledges there are or will be other gods.

Beloved, these verses are prophetic in nature. It is good to teach the concept of God of gods, because it brings some things into mind. Firstly, it is important to mention that the prophets prophesied by the resting of the Spirit of God upon them. They would speak by the Holy Ghost. (For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. 2 Peter 1:21).

Therefore, these declarations were not personal perceptions these three prophets had of God ; rather it was God speaking through and by them.

Yet, how can God be a God of gods, if He already declared that there are no other gods? This therefore clarifies that the gods He is referring to through the prophets are not idols made by man. A good scripture to assist you in the explanation of this is

Psalm 82:6

6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.

This clearly defines the gods to whom God was referring to when He declared Himself God of gods. He is not saying that He is the God of idols, because idols are not gods. He is saying that He is the God of gods, or in other words He is the Father of His children.

Psalm 82:6 defines what a true god is: a god is a child of God.

And a child of God has the Spirit of God.

Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his ; (Rom 8:9).

A god is one who was once a human being; which is simply a soul enclosed in a body of flesh. However, he was transformed to a god when his soul was removed from the flesh, placed inside of the Holy Spirit and the Spirit placed into the flesh. A god is one who has the Spirit of God inside of them, for only then can you truly be a Child of God. It is only by the Holy Spirit, or the Spirit of adoption that God is Abba or Father. (Romans 8:15)

At salvation the soul was taken out of the human body of flesh and placed in the Spirit of God. This made the soul a new Creature, which was born of God. As we established earlier, anything born of God can lawfully be called a god. The new creature or god, was then placed back in the flesh for the purpose of humility and kinsmanship. It was placed in the flesh so that we could be equal with mankind as it relates to being in flesh, yet present with God as it relates to being in the Spirit.

The positioning of the new creature (the soul in the Holy Ghost) inside of flesh, makes us equal with humanity for the purpose of reconciling men back to God.

Even though there are times when angelic beings are referred to as gods, the sons of God are not of the same kind as angels, they are of the same kind as God. They are one with His Sprit, and He professed there was no other Spirit like His. The spirit which the sons have become is the Spirit of God.

A real god is a child or the literal offspring of God. The mystery of Christ simply has this god in flesh for the trying of his faith. As we walk on earth, we do not seek praise, glory or honor (though we will receive that in the Millennial Reign of Jesus Christ). We are here to be humble and meek, without vanity. The responsibility of a god is to glorify God the Father and His Son.

When God declared that there was no other God He made that statement referring to idols. But more importantly, when He declared Himself as the God of gods, He is establishing Himself as a creature of His own kind. He is a species all by Himself.

He is a spirit and that spirit is peculiar to God and God alone. He could say that there were no other gods because there were none else at that time who were of His kind. No one else had His Spirit or His spiritual DNA.

This changed when Jesus came on the scene, for He was the first one to declare that He was the son of God. Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? St. John 10:36.

As a son of God, Jesus had just declared that He and His Father were one. This was indeed considered blasphemy because no one else had ever dared to call Almighty God their father. But Jesus was indeed His Son, of His species, and one with Him.

Today we are His children, of the exact same species that He is, and made one with His Spirit . We are joined to the Lord and one with Him.

But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. 1 Corinthians 6:17).

We are then truly gods, but we are all one with Him, by being inside of Him. We are not before God, neither are we above or equal with Him in authority. We are His children and therefore gods by Him and because of Him.
