Teaching From The Spirit

Summary scripture

1 Corinthians 2:11-13

11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

Only the Holy Ghost knows all the things that pertain to God. He is the only one who knows and understands the mind and intent of the Father. He is the Spirit of God. Paul was very clear that it was and is the Spirit of God who provides the curriculum for the Church. To teach from this curriculum is to teach from the position of the Spirit.

Note that Paul was only echoing what Jesus taught:

St. John 14:26

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

To teach the Word from the Spirit, the teacher must endeavor to make the students understand God’s heart and mind concerning salvation and His overall disposition towards His creation. The student must be made to see God’s perspective and emotions about any given situation, and there must be no provisions made for the flesh. The Holy Ghost teaches us all things pertaining to God and godliness. He alone searches out the deep things of God. If this is the case then we should not teach anything that He does not teach us. This means that the Word of God cannot be discerned by our own natural ability or education. It must be brought to life by revelation. It is the revelation of God’s Word byGod that is to be taught.

1 Corinthians 2:9,10

9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

Note the latter part of John 14:26. The Holy Ghost would bring all things to their remembrance, whatsoever He had said unto them. If you are to be an effective teacher in the Church you must know and understand the teachings of Christ.

All that was taught by the disciples, Peter, James, John and Paul, was first taught by Jesus. JESUS TAUGHT THE GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM. If you study His teachings you will find that the Gospel of the Kingdom of God is all inclusive. Everything that is taught in the New Covenant is the Gospel of the Kingdom, its King, its subjects and their purpose.

Matthew 4:23

And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

I need you to follow me closely in these lessons because it is my intent to instruct you on how to teach, as well as what to teach. In some instances this will be done simultaneously.

Start your study with the four gospels. These are the teachings of Christ. They put on display the heart and mind of the Father. At the end of this lesson is found the Outlines of the Gospels taken from Thomas Nelson Publishers.

These outlines will help you to at least see the order of events, mindsets, responses and subject matters discussed in the ministry of Christ.

Learn the teachings of Christ and pair the principles He taught with the teachings found in the Epistles. It is most important for you to make this principle a law for study of the scriptures. You must understand thoroughly the concept of the apostles teaching only those things that were taught to them by Christ. They did not add nor did they subtract from what they had received. It was the Holy Ghost who brought these things into focus after the ascension.

In one of the following lessons we will discuss in great detail this principle, relating the teachings of Christ to that of the apostles. But for now it will suffice to say that none of the writers of the New Covenant were inspired to write anything beyond that which was taught by Christ. The Holy Ghost did not take them outside of the the boundaries that Christ has set. You must be careful to judge that which you think you are hearing in your spirit with that which has been taught by Christ.

Proverbs 1:5-7

5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Also, use the teachings of Christ to learn how to keep the subject matter in their proper context. This kind of study helps to set the boundaries of your interpretation of the scriptures.

1 Corinthians 2:14-16

14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

It is the teacher who systematically breaks down the Word line upon line and precept upon precept. We, the members of the Body of Christ are able to understand the Word of God simply because we have received the Spirit of God. Therefore, the teacher is primarily set in the Church to teach the saints of God.

Colossians 1:12-13

12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

The saints of God are the children of light. That light has broken the power of darkness in that we are no longer blind and ignorant to the things God has done on our behalf.

Proverbs 9:8-10

8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

The word “scorner” is used here to mean sinners. The scriptures will surely reprove the lifestyle of sinners. But they know nothing of God’s law and neither do they regard it as law for their lives. Therefore, it would be futile to attempt to lay upon them the instructions of the Holy Ghost which are given only to those who are spiritual. The unsaved man is not able to receive the principles of the Word because they are held captive by the power of darkness. They may enjoy hearing the truth, but it is impossible for them to live it. If the unsaved enjoy hearing the Word, then it is wisdom to teach them salvation so that perhaps they will come to the infilling of the Spirit of God and comprehend the truth. Otherwise, they will simply become frustrated with hearing but not able to walk in what they hear. Therefore, Apostle Michael and I have developed a bible study that extensively deals with the subject of salvation. This bible study is not only to be used in the homes we have elected to have studies in, but it is also to be used in the church as a class for those who attend our churches but are not born again. Let us pray that some will find the Lord and be filled with His Spirit during the course of that study.
