THE SONS…THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

Paul said God would use the Church to show principalities and powers in heavenly places, His manifold wisdom. This is nothing less than a God who is confident of what He is able to produce. He is making a reputation for Himself among the celestial beings.

Matthew 5:14-16

14. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

15. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Ye are the light of the world simply means we (the Sons of God) are the only revelation of Christ in the world today. We are the only ones who have been enlightened by submission to the truth and the receiving of the Spirit. We are the only beings on the planet who know and have a personal relationship with God. If the world is to see God they must look upon us; for when they have seen us they should have seen the Father. God sent the light. It came without observation. It is as the wind. But God placed the light in a human vessel. This is His candlestick. The darkness that was in the vessel could not comprehend the light. The darkness has fled and the light that was in the face of Jesus now shines brightly in our hearts. Jesus tells us to let or allow this light that is within us to shine so that men (those who are not born of God) can see the holy and righteous lifestyle we are able to live in the midst of a sinful world.

Matthew 6:22

22. The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

The light of the body is the eye; or rather its sight or vision. That is the translation of the Greek word used here. Right here is where we either win or lose the prize. When we were birthed into the kingdom of light every essence of our being was given over to the light. We avoided the darkness of the world and clave to the light and the life of the kingdom. The vision of our mind and soul was holiness. We desperately desired to please the Father. Truth and love were the banners over us. We did not want to entangle ourselves with the affairs of the world. Our vision was set on things that pertained to the kingdom of God. Because of the singleness of our hearts we shone as bright lights among those who walked in darkness. Our ways changed. Our conversations changed. We became loving and kind. Our vision changed. We no longer craved the things of the world. Some of us wanted to leave our secular jobs so that we could serve the Lord daily without distraction. Others began to testify of the presence of God in our lives. The light in us was shining for all to see. This shining light is the only evidence on the earth that proves the existence of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Matthew 6:23

23. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

If your sight or vision be evil, then your whole existence is evil. Your deeds, your thoughts, your ways and your lifestyle before men will be evil. Jesus didn’t waste any time getting directly to the heart of this matter.

Matthew 6:24

24. No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Our sight or vision must be single. But many in the church are trying to see the kingdom of light with one eye and the kingdom of darkness with the other. That is impossible. We must choose. Either we will set our affections on things above and let them remain there, or we will abandon the things pertaining to the kingdom of God and pursue the things of the world. The choice belongs to us. But if we are to fulfill our calling as sons of God, then our vision must be single.

2 Corinthians 4:18

While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

The scripture reflects the wisdom we are to walk in. This world will soon pass away, but the things God has promised us are eternal and everlasting. There is nothing in this world that can compare with the blessings to come upon the sons. Let us gladly suffer persecution and need. The day is coming and will soon be when the sons of God will rule and reign with our Lord. Until then, let us be content to be the light of the world.
