Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever.
Apostle John had the vision to see Christ eternally. He saw Christ beyond the beginning and he saw him beyond the end.
John 1:1-3
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
In the beginning was the Word. The Word was not only with God but he was God. This scripture is revealing to us that the Word of God is far beyond rhema (uttered) and logos (written). We have our bibles and we read daily the Word of God and in our prayer sessions we hear the voice of our Lord, but do we truly understand the Word? The scripture defines the Word as a person, and by this person were all things made. Paul confirms John in his letter to the Hebrews.
Hebrews 11:3
Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
The Creation of the Earth
Genesis 1:1-3
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.
3 And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Moses saw creation as the work of God, but he did not have the understanding of the Trinity that God is.
Genesis 1:26
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
It was not until the 26th verse of the chapter that God revealed to Moses that it was a council that was causing all he had seen. Hitherto Moses had seen creation done by the spoken word of God. This is the council that John saw in depth.
1 John 5:7
For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
It was by the Word of God that light came forth. He spoke and said let there be light and it was so. This may seem contradictory if we lack the understanding that the Word of God is a person.
Colossians 1:13-17
13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers:all things were created by him, and for him:
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. It was by Jesus Christ that the worlds were framed.
The Word of God is spirit. It was Jesus who came forth from the mouth of the Father as he spoke to creation. Let us not forget that the Word is the soul of God. The Word is the expression of Almighty God. The Word is Jesus Christ.
John 1:14
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
This is so important for us to see. Many of us have difficulty relating the spoken word which has been written by the prophets of old to Jesus Christ; however, let us allow the scriptures to clarify.
Hebrews 10:7
Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
Here is where the rubber meets the road. Everything that has ever been seen or heard by any prophet; everything that is written in the scriptures all testify of Christ. All prophecies and writings are about Christ Jesus.
Revelation 19:10
And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
It was by the spirit of prophecy that the prophets saw and heard. It was by the spirit of prophecy that the writers of scripture were inspired to write. However, this spirit of prophecy is a testimony of Jesus. All prophecies testify of Jesus and his work on the earth. Even those who were before Jesus as it pertains to time saw things concerning Christ and wrote of him.
The Word of God is a description of the man Jesus Christ and his life. God opened the eyes of John to see into Proverbs 8 where Solomon saw Wisdom in the beginning.
John 1:1-5
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
Proverbs 8:12 & 22-31
12 I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions…
22 The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.
23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.
24 When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. 25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:
26 While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.
27 When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:
28 When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:
29 When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:
30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;
31 Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.
Solomon saw the Lord Jesus as Wisdom. Wisdom existed before the world was, and he was possessed of the Lord. He was with God, and he was God.
Examine John 1:4 and Proverbs 8:31.
John 1:4
In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
Proverbs 8:31
Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.
The context of both scriptures is the beginning of time. Before the world was framed; before Adam; before Lucifer fell. However, at that time dwelt the light of men. It was at that time that Wisdom delighted in the sons of men. Let us truly consider what the Lord is saying.
1 John 1:1
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
Despite the fact that Lucifer had not yet fallen, neither Adam created, there existed a life which was the light of men. That life was the Word. It was the eternal plan of God to have a people in which he would live in and express himself through. However, all who would be engrafted into his lineage would have to be baptized into his only begotten son, Jesus Christ. The life of Jesus was that life the Father delighted in before the world ever began. It was the Father’s desire to become physical and dwell in a physical world. However, when he came to the world, he would have a particular character and particular dealings, because he is holy. That was the life which existed before the framing of earth. The word that we see and read is a description of that life. When Adam fell into sin and multiplied, there was none righteous no not one. There was none who knew the righteousness of God, there was none who could define that life that was in the beginning. There was none who knew the holiness of God. Life already existed but it was hidden as a mystery to all creation. Seeing no one could perform righteousness God sent a peak of the life that would one day walk the earth by sending the law.
The Ten Commandments simply described the character and nature of Christ. It was the nature of that life to revere the Lord God. Do not forget that it was the Word that became flesh. The Ten Commandments instructed that we have no other gods before God; make no idols; honor parents; do not murder; do not covet; etc – all of which are the nature of Jesus Christ. When the Word becomes flesh he has no problem performing these commandments, because the commandments were simply a description of his life in the flesh. God sent these commandments to reveal the great distinction between the sons of men and Christ. Some of the provisions of the law were sent as a type and shadow of the mystery of Christ; in all things he is the volume of the book. Therefore today, when we are instructed by leaders in the Word of God, they are simply comparing the life of Christ to our life. When we are told not to judge, that is a description of who Jesus is – he is not judgmental. This life that was the delight of the Father before time was made flesh and everything to do with time was made for him.
The scripture defines the life as the light of men. Wisdom’s delight was the sons of men. The Word of life that was from the beginning has now in the dispensation of grace been declared unto us. When we are baptized into the Holy Spirit we enter eternity. Time manifests what has already existed in eternity. There is only one life that God delights in, and that is the life of Christ. However, God and Christ have already seen the life that he would live in and through you and it was his delight before you were ever manifested in time.
Romans 8:29
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
God predestined us to be conformed into the image of his son. We, too, would be the word made flesh because we would all put on the new man. The life that was before did not cease with the life of Christ 2000 years ago, but it continues with the life of Christ through us. Now we are the living, breathing, walking Word. When we read the scriptures we ought to see ourselves, in Christ.
Romans 3:19-21
19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
The law was sent to reveal that all, whether Jew or Gentile, were born in sin. There were none who could perform righteousness. However, when Christ came the words that were written upon tablets of stone could look upon men and see itself walking and living in flesh.
The word testifies that it is a description of that life that would come and is already here.
2 Corinthians 3:2-3
2 Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
The Word of God is made flesh in us and it ought to be read by everyone in your sphere of influence. People should be able to see the bible in you. You are the epistle of Christ. Your life is now exposed to all men and to principalities and powers to be read of them. You have already received the word. It is written with the Spirit upon your hearts. It is your nature to do righteousness. The spirit of truth leads you into all truth and your conscience rebukes all sin. As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him.
