We Are One

I believe salvation is the most exciting and awesome workmanship ever conceived by God. His ways are beyond our understanding and can only be described as wonders. We can simply say He is a master builder.

1 Corinthians 15:47-48

47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.

48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.

It is imperative that we take a very close look at what the apostle is really saying here. As is the earthy, so are they also that are earthy. In other words, as is Adam, so are his children. But more importantly, and more relevant to us is the second part of this verse which states; as is the heavenly, such are they also that are children of the heavenly. Jesus Christ is the Lord from heaven. God through Jesus Christ begot us; therefore, we are the children of a heavenly being. This simply means that we are not of this world. These are the facts that most of the people of God have no problem reiterating. However, it is certain that the church does not have an understanding as to what this really means; beyond the fact that we are saved and have possibly escaped hell. We boast about being children of God; but what does it really mean to be a son of the living God?

1 Corinthians 15:49

And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

Here is where the mind of the church detours from the mind of God. Because we have not yet born the image of the heavenly as it relates to our celestial bodies, (that are prepared for us in heaven), we cannot conceive us actually being a real son of the living God. But might I remind you that Jesus took on human flesh. He was the Lord from heaven, who resided in a human body just as we do. My dear saints, you must understand this great mystery here. For this season we are the image of Christ. He is dwelling in these bodies of flesh and blood. Yes, right now we are the image of the heavenly. Yes, the day will come when we take off these mortal bodies and put on immortality. We will be changed from corruption into that which is incorruptible.

However, today Christ can only be seen in us. It was His testimony that said, unless we become one as He and the Father are One, the world will never know that He came. We must accept the fact that right now, we are the image of the heavenly. When we all believe the same thing, speak the same thing, feel the same thing and judge the same judgment; then and only then will it manifest that we all are One. Nevertheless, we are somewhat confused and perplexed because we do not work the works of Christ; nor do we have the fellowship with the Father He had. Somehow we cannot help but see Him as superhuman. There simply has to be something different about Him, especially when we compare ourselves to the glory in which He walked.

What is it going to take for the Father to fully persuade us that as Christ is, so are we? Once again, I believe the answer is found in the definition of salvation or even beyond salvation. I think we must go back to the original intent of the Father. Why did God make man? What was the purpose of creating such a creature? If we go back to the beginning of creation, we see that God walked with His man. Although there were many other creatures upon the earth, He favored His man. Not only that, but Scripture also declares He made man in His own image and in His own likeness. Even Adam was designed to be a god. He was to rule over the entire earth. He was given power to subdue it and to rule over all the works of God’s hand. This godlike creature was the apple of God’s eye. He was the head of all creation. He was like God in power and dominion over the earth. But more importantly, he was in fellowship with God. Adam walked with God in the Garden of Eden. God talked with Him and delighted in His company. But then something terrible happened. Adam sinned and this sin separated him from God. However, this sin did not take God by surprise. He knew that one day man would disobey Him. However, in eternity past, God constructed a great mystery. It was the mystery of Christ. A mystery so great that God did not tell anyone about it. Instead, it was hidden within Himself until the time of the church.

Ephesians 1:3-6

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted into the beloved.

My friends, let us look into the mind of God for He has given us the mind of Christ. According to the scripture above we were chosen in God before the foundation of the world. This is something that we must embrace as truth and a part of our heritage. The Lord knew us before He ever made the world. There are many scriptures that bear witness to this great wonder.

Follow me here as we look into eternity past.

John 17:24

Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

I love the Scriptures where Jesus testifies of His oneness with God. In this scripture, He makes mention of the fact that God loved Him before the foundation of the world. In other words, He was with God before the world came into existence.

John 1:1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:14

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us...

Jesus Christ is that Word.

Hebrews 10:5-7

5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

This is the Godhead in action. It is the Word of God that said, “A body thou has prepared me.” In other words, “I’ll go down and redeem man because you have already prepared me a body that will die on the cross. But my body is also a righteous seed that will be planted in the earth. When it is resurrected, it will bring forth fruit that will be the bone of my bone and the flesh of my flesh. I will say to all the scoffers,

1 Corinthians 15:36-38

Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die: And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain: But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.

The testimony of our Lord must become our testimony.

1 John 3:2

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

We must see ourselves as one with the Father, our Lord Jesus Christ and the members of the Body. Until this is real, we will never enjoy the liberty of being a true son of the living God.
