Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
If we are going to understand the ‘New and Living Way’ we all must become disciples of this truth. We must believe the basic principles of salvation. Ninety-nine percent of the Church, the known Body of Christ, does not understand salvation. It is in darkness relative to the truth. We too, will remain in darkness if we do not embrace the foundational truths of the faith. We must first conclude that we are not mere human beings. We are Sons of the Living God. Unless we embrace this truth, we will never, ever, walk as Sons. Therefore, we are going to go over these facts again in this study. Perhaps, something will be said this time, that opens the eyes of your understanding and fills you with a spirit of enlightenment.
Acts 17:28
For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
When the writer says, “our being” he is referring to the soul. The soul is who you are; it is the ‘me.’ It is going to live forever, whether with the Lord or separated from Him. The soul is the being, hence the terminology “human being”. A human being is one whose being is within a human body. However, the scripture says in:
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
This passage suggests that there has been a positional change in the location of the soul. It started out in the flesh; thus, we were ‘living souls.’ But now, according to 1 Corinthians 15:45-46
…The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.
The truth is, we have become spiritual beings. This we must believe. Yes, we started out as living souls. God gave us a body to express the desires, joy, sadness and emotions of the soul. But when the soul is saved, it, (the being) is placed in Christ for preservation. But when this re-positioning of the soul took place; it was joined to the Spirit of God. And the scripture is faithful to say; But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17). Therefore, there was a change from a human being to that of a spiritual being, because the being now dwells in the Spirit of God. Paul also confirmed this in his writings to the Galatians in chapter 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
When the soul is joined to the Holy Spirit, it becomes one spirit. Now we understand when Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3:6
“That which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” Take note here that the sons of God were birthed by the Spirit. This is a term that means we were begotten by the Spirit of God. Therefore, per Hebrews 12:9, God is the Father of spirits. That is who we are; spiritual beings, birthed into the kingdom of God, by the Spirit of God. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:16-17). We are one with God.
In John 17:21, Jesus prayed: “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.” How can we possibly be one with God and still be human? God is the Father of spirits. If we are in Christ we are spiritual beings. We must embrace the truth that says we are New Creatures. We cannot be afraid to say we are literally the sons of God. According to Romans 8:15 , For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. Almighty God is our Father. God is not the father of Adam’s children. Adam gave his children to satan. Jesus acknowledged this when he responded to the Jewish clergy, “Ye are of your father, the devil…John 8:44. But we were begotten by God, by the Spirit of God. We are indeed His spiritual offspring.
