From the moment we were born, our lives have been a continual learning process. We’ve learned to crawl then walk, then to run. We were in diapers, then we got pull-ups and then we were potty trained. First, we learned to say mama and daddy, and then we learned our ABC’s, then numbers and colors. Now we can read and write and articulate exactly how we feel with no problems. But all of the knowledge we have now started somewhere. As we mature, we do not throw the knowledge we have out the door, but we add on to it as we grow. Just because we get older doesn’t mean that we should forget the basics of potty training. It would be ludicrous to see a grown man wearing pull-ups because he felt he was too mature to use the knowledge he learned as a child. Common sense tells you that basics of life are good to keep from childhood on. So it must be even so in our spiritual life. The basics we learn as babes in Christ are to stay with us through out our entire existence in the world. Holiness is never just a suggestion; it is the basis for our life. Whatever state we find ourselves in, we ought to be holy and acceptable to God; rich or poor, single or married, young or old. As we add to our knowledge of God keep in mind that we will never throw out the basics of our faith, we will only add to them.
Peter 1:5-8
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
