JESUS, THE FATHER, AND I

Let us take a closer look at the relationship between Jesus and the Father; for it is an example of the one we are to have with God. Paul was given tremendous knowledge in this area.

Hebrews 1:1-2

1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

These first two verses simply allow us to know who the rest of the chapter is referring to; Jesus, the Son of God. Then he points to the future wherein Jesus has been ordained to inherit all things. But the most interesting fact here is the last phase; “by whom also he made the worlds.” What worlds? Is he talking about the planets; or is it possible he is referring to the existence of more than one world, here on this planet? According to Vine’s Expository, the word used in this passage refers literally to world or worlds. Both the natural world we see and the invisible world of the Spirit were made or brought forth by Jesus Christ. He is not of this world, but He is its maker. Likewise, He is the author and finisher of the faith that establishes us in the Kingdom of God.

Hebrews 1:3

Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

Jesus Christ is an exactness of God the Father. The term ‘express image’ refers to this exactness. Jesus called it oneness. (“Make them one as we are one”). The next phrase declares that He is able to uphold (to bring forth) all things by the power of His word. This reflects the testimony of Christ; “the words that I speak they are the Father’s. Therefore, because I am in no wise distracted, I have remained within the parameters, or boundaries of the word of my Father, He will bring forth all that I speak. Paul basically said the same thing to the Colossians.

Colossians 1:12-13

12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

We have made a positional change, wherein, we have moved from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of Light. That in itself speaks of two worlds. It is time for us to see this for what it is. By one man sin and death entered into this natural world and the authority to rule and subdue it was handed to Satan. He is now the prince of this world and has made it a part of his Kingdom of Darkness. The spirit of iniquity, demons and devils rule its inhabitants. The spirit of death works in all things; man, animals, and plants alike. This was not so in the beginning. This is not the habitation for man the Lord created. This is a manifestation of the lie that was spoken to Eve by the devil “ye shall not surely die.” It is a gross contradiction of the purpose and will of God for His creation. But there is a new order coming. Our Lord will take this world back from the usurper. The Father has ordained it. And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the Kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever (Revelation 11:15).

According to the 13th verse of Colossians 1, we have been translated out of the kingdom of darkness, wherein sin is the ruler (for you cannot separate Satan from sin, just as you cannot separate God from righteousness); into the Kingdom of Light, where Jesus Christ is King. The word translated means to literally remove from one place to another. My sisters, my brothers, you must embrace this truth or you will never walk in the Spirit wherein you can please the Father.

I can hear the voice of the enemy speaking through some of you who will read or hear this teaching. You say to yourself and others; “I don’t believe it takes all of this.” But then my response would be, “Why is it written?” Look at Peter’s response in his epistle to the church.

2 Peter 3:8-16

8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

Saints, listen to this very serious accusation. Those who are unlearned and unstable wrestle with the Scriptures. This is because they are looking for an easier way to make it into the Kingdom of Heaven and to be found in it at the return of our Lord. But Peter also makes it clear that this wrestling with the word of God is to their destruction. Saints, the Scripture demands pure holiness. It declares that we can only meet Him in peace if we are blameless and without spot. There are no exceptions. Either we walk as Christ did, or we miss the mark and receive our portion with the unbelievers.

2 Peter 3:17-18

17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Again Peter narrows the path the saints must take to receive their inheritance from God. Do not be led away from the truth by the spirit of error, which are the doctrines of the devil. These will cause you to fall, by weakening your resolve and causing you to yield your members to unrighteousness. And now let us go back to our base Scripture here as we endeavor to show the relationship between the Father and the Son.

Colossians 1:14-15

14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

Here we go again. Jesus is the image of the God we cannot see. His character, His spiritual attributes, His speech, His deeds, and His purpose, all belong to the Father. Jesus in no way sought a reputation for Himself. When He gave testimony of Himself, He only spoke those things the Father had said of Him. But even more intriguing is the fact that He is the firstborn of every creature. This simply means He is the first of His kind. He is the first of many new creatures, (Sons) who are citizens of the new Kingdom.

Colossians 1:16-18

16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

Here Paul repeats verse 15. Though we are all new creatures in Christ Jesus, we were all once dead in sins and trespasses. But because Christ was raised from the dead, the same Spirit that raised Him up has now quickened us from death to life. That makes us just as responsible for revealing the Father to the world today. We are the ambassadors of the Kingdom. The world will never know the Kingdom of God is real except we operate in its righteousness and power. We are to continue the mission of our Lord. We are called to do greater works because we remain in the world. We are here to bear witness of the door to the Kingdom of God. We are here to lead others into the light. We alone have the gift of life to give to the dead men of this world. Let us not take the talent and bury it under a bushel. But let us walk worthy of our calling. This is our reasonable service to the Master and Captain of our salvation.
