COMPARING OURSELVES AMONG OURSELVES

God’s purpose in dealing with sin is to purge it out of the Church.

A worthy question to ask might be, “What are the sins that are to be dealt with by the method discussed in the proceeding chapter?” Do we only deal with things like fornication, adultery, addictions, fraud, witchcraft, etc? After all, no one expects to be dealt with in such a manner if they are simply a backbiter, gossiper, liar (bearing false witness), or a peace breaker.

Has God, indeed made a distinction as to what sins are to enter this purging process? I think not and it is deception to believe that there are excusable sins. These things hurt, devour, destroy hope, and overturn the faith of many. . . . But they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise (2 Cor.10:12)

This is why it is easy for some to remain in their negative character; they compare themselves to others and decide that they cannot be considered evil. But once again, “What did God say?

Proverbs 6:16-19

16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

I must continue to say that it is not alright for us to walk outside of the faith in any area of our life. To be able to hang our hat on someone else’s sin, is not a green light to ignore our own. If we can truly say that we are not walking in the Spirit, then we are walking in sin.

There is no such thing as “no harm” sin. All sin is harmful to the Body of Christ. This is our time to impact the Body of Christ and the world with the love and power of God. We are up to the challenge. We were raised for this day. Let us purge sin out of our camps and take up the banner of righteousness.
