The Elect Lady: Satan Is That You Sweetie?

In this chapter we are going to take a look at the devil’s attributes and compare them with our own behavior. The devil, as he is called in Matthew 4:1, means slanderer. A slanderer is someone who makes a false, malicious statement, especially one which damages the reputation of another. What do you say about the people you do not like? Do you seek to destroy their reputation with others? Do you lie and give false impressions of people in an attempt to make others see as you see? Satan is the prince of the power of the air (Ephesians 2:2). He is the spirit that controls the spiritual disposition of man. He has created a satanic spiritual environment for man to live in. The whole atmosphere of the world is evil and wickedness is thriving. Now judge whether you, with your spiritual disposition create a contentious evil environment of iniquity for the people associated with you to live in.

Do people expect to entertain a holy, peaceful environment when they come into your presence; or do they expect contention and adversity? Can people hear the iniquity in your conversation that readily creates an uncomfortable atmosphere? Satan is the king of death (Hebrews 2:14). This means that satan has the power of death. You may not physically kill anyone, but are you guilty of spiritual murder? Do you edify or degrade?

Romans 6:16 - Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness,

Can others look to you for encouragement or do they consistently entertain criticism, discontentment and iniquity? Does your attitude destroy the spirit of those around you; or do you encourage them to reach for the stars? Do you bring death into your marriage or other relationships? Do you walk in constant offense, rather than the life of Christ? Satan is the prince of this world (John 12:31). This means satan is the ruler of this world. According to this scripture, satan lives in and dominates mankind. Are you the one who has to dominate all who live in your sphere of influence? Are you the usurper of your husband’s authority? Or maybe you are one who has to be in control in every relationship. Do you talk to your friends as if you have the pre-eminence in their lives? Do you talk to your children as if they have no feelings or opinions?

Satan is the deceiver (Revelation 20:10). This name reveals satan as one who lies to trick or mislead. The devil is the master of subtlety. You may or may not be one to tell an out-right lie on someone, but instead simply paint a picture that speaks the lie for you. Those who always want people to see them as a victim, cannot help but engage in such subtleties. Satan is the wicked one (Matthew 13:38). This name reveals that satan is evil or mischievous by nature.

2 Chronicles 7:14

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will

I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

It is our ways that make us wicked. When we operate in this character we have become the agent of the devil himself! Satan is the tempter (1 Thessalonians 3:5). This name reveals that satan does provoke to cause people to do wrong. This is a biggie. It is an evil woman who studies her prey for weaknesses; and then zeros in on those weaknesses to provoke him or her to do that which is wrong. Provocation is another form of seduction and some women are experts at it. Satan is the accuser of the brethren (Revelation 12:10). This means satan charges or places blame or fault on a follower of Christ. Are you constantly accusing your spouse, children or others? Are you always looking for an opportunity to point out faults or lay blame without mercy? Are you argumentative? If so, listen to what God has to say about you. It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house (Proverbs 25:24).
