SPIRITUAL PROSTITUTION

Summary Scripture:

1 Timothy 6:6 - But godliness with contentment is great gain.

The Bible defines a whore as the female who offers her body to fulfill the sexual desires of another for gain. As we look closely at this biblical definition; it concludes that any form of sexual activity outside of marriage for personal gain is considered prostitution. Keep in mind it is not narrowly focusing on the woman who may walk the streets or frequent hotel rooms for the “turning of tricks,” but it is also considerate of those who have boy or girlfriends, with whom they engage in sexual acts for the benefits that might be built into the relationship. These benefits could include money but may also be relative to position, social status, promotion or other substance.

I want us to look at another type of prostitution that is often overlooked in teaching the Body of Christ. I choose to call this spiritual prostitution. In the act of prostitution, there is always

an exchange. Each party must give up something. Therefore, it is important to evaluate what you are willing to give up in order to maintain a relationship. The root of this evaluation must be an honest assessment of why you entered the relationship in the first place. What is it that appealed to you about the other person? Sometimes, men enter relationships with women strictly due to the physical attributes of the female they are dating. They tend to overlook values and righteous or unrighteous spiritual disposition. They are only interested in the sex or the physical appearance of the woman.

Now this is also true regarding some women whose choosing of a mate is heavily weighted with physical attributes. Although we all would like to have a companion that is physically attractive, the motive for finding a mate was not intended to be reduced to a legalized, live-in sex partner. However, the opposite for some women is also true. They find themselves in relationships with men whom they know are not saved; or that they are not really attracted to.

Regarding the unsaved, the typical response is that they will get them saved; or they are just as saved as some of the saints in the church. This is a cop-out. Wantonness is the motivation in such

cases. The man has something they want; whether it is sex or substance. And let us not be naive in our discussion; sometimes the women of God are simply wanton for companionship. Nevertheless, it is still wantonness; and is void of acknowledging the power of the Comforter. The root of this deception is unbelief. Most of the women in the household of faith, do not believe God is able to make them happy without male companionship. Please don’t think that I am adverse to us entering a righteous union; quite the contrary. However, a union based solely upon fulfilling the lust of the flesh will not stand the test of time, as it relates to happiness. Just as men enter relationships for the wrong reasons, so do the handmaidens of the Lord. Although there are many reasons and circumstances that may influence such decisions, here I will make mention of the most popular: wantonness.

A desire for the things of this world:

In the world as well as in the church, there is a saying, “he is a good catch.” Now the common meaning for this phrase is that the women has managed to land a good man. But in some more

carnal circles the implications are far more telling. In some instances, it means she has landed someone who can give her the things she wants out of this world. This is all well and

good when both she and the man have a mutual bond of love and purity of mind and heart. But when want fills the heart more than love, then it is safe to say this is not a match made in heaven. It is driven by lust and greed for the things of the world; which she was not able to obtain beforehand. But now she has found someone who is interested in her and has the substance to boot. If such a relationship is top heavy want, and not love, then she has done nothing more than landed herself a sugar daddy.

Oftentimes, the man is aware of the greed in his prospective companion, but he is either deeply in love, or thinks he is, or being in the relationship or marriage supplies a need he has; a need that the women may be totally unaware of. It could be as simple as... Public appearance: The need to present the image of a happily married man. In such cases, the woman is simply a decoration that must be worn to be completely dressed for the public. Such men will make sure the woman is well groomed and displayed properly. Whatever she needs to enhance her looks he will provide. Because both parties seem to be getting what they want out of the union, there will be some clear tell-tale signs that this is a marriage designed for public appearance on his part and lust for things on her part. There might not be any upfront hostilities in the relationship; in fact, the two could be very kind and generous to each other. But time and chance are certain to bring about an exposure of both hearts.

A desire for position or social status: Women who enter relationships for gain of worldly substance and or for what seems to offer position of social status; have not considered that such a union may not make them happy after all. Quite often they find that the things they must live with or without are far more depressing or unnerving than they expected. Remember, when relationships are not birthed out of purity of heart and mind, spiritual prostitution is in effect. Each party must give up something; and that something is often a part of themselves.

Maintaining your position in a relationship:

And the same thing is true when women enter relationships where they are unable or fearful of expressing their true feelings about things that take place in the relationship, out of fear of losing the

man they desire to marry. This is suppression and will only breed unhappiness. These women are desperate for companionship or marriage. They prostitute their emotions, desires, likes or dislikes

for the sake of staying in the relationship. The desire for position or social status in the Body of Christ is unlawful when it is motivated by a desire to be or at least, seem to be superior, better or better off than other saints in your territorial spheres of influence.

However, the players in the real world are not aware of the role they play in your imagination, nor did you allow your imagination to include situations, circumstances, and relationships that God

ordains in His continual chastening (son training) of your soul. When the motives for such a union are not righteous, the courtship is wrapped in a blanket of impurity and deception. One might

offer a rebuttal to the point of deception because in some of these kinds of unions or courtships, past histories are revealed and placed on the table. For example, the couple might discuss things

like, the number of failed marriages, the number of children begotten in or out of wedlock, or negative credit issues and so on. The relationship can seem to be one of openness and honesty. But a discussion of past failures does not necessarily mean that there is also a revelation of present motive.

Spiritual deliverance:

The idea that marriage will be a cure for spiritual deficiency or lack of spiritual discipline is deception. I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even

as I. But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn (1 Corinthians 7:8-9). Although the script makes it clear that it is better to marry than

to burn in hell, marriage itself is not the cure-all for sexual promiscuity. This is a sin of rebellion against the Christ who lives in your flesh. A man or woman must overcome sin in any form

before they are deemed delivered. The institution of marriage was not designed for delivering one from sin; the Blood of Jesus did that.
