SCRIPTURAL DIVISION OF TIME

In order to study Bible prophecy you must be familiar with the different divisions of time rendered in the scriptures.

After The Beginning

Genesis 1:3-5

3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

God divided the light from the darkness which caused an evening and a morning. This equaled one day. This day is an Earth day. Time is an institution installed by God. A day is a period inside of eternity that measures the revolutions of the earth around the sun.

1 Day = a division or measurement of time. It is a 24 hour period.

Time, therefore, is from the division of light and darkness on earth to the beginning of eternity. This is an earthly element, used to divide dispensations.

The Jewish day is from evening to morning. The Jewish day begins at 6:00 p.m., whereas the Roman day is from midnight to midnight.

Scripture also gives us genealogies for a measurement of time. In the 5th chapter of Genesis, we find genealogy through ages, life spans and offspring of the patriarchs. We can use these

genealogies to determine numbers of years and timing of events.

Notice also how the image and likeness changes in the 5th chapter of Genesis. When God created Adam, He made him in His image and likeness. When Adam sinned, his son Seth was created in Adam’s image; no longer under God’s image. God's image afforded Adam the privilege of ruling planet Earth and placed him in charge of every living thing that crept upon the earth. After Adam’s disobedience he took on the image of Satan.

Genesis 5:1-3

1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;

2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:

Adam was 130 years old when he begat Seth and lived 800 years after Seth was born. This made him 930 years old when he died. Seth was 105 years old when he begat Enos and lived 807 years old after Enos was born; making him 912 years old when he died. Enos was 90 years old when he begat Cainan and lived 815 years after Cainan was born; making him 905 years old when he died.

HOW SCRIPTURE DIVIDES TIME

We have to use Jewish divisions of time because that is who God dealt with. God deals in Shabua (seven or sevens). Seven means perfection or completeness (fullness) from the way it is used in scripture. The book of Daniel has a lot of Shabua in it. First Shabua is One Week of Days. It was the first created week. One week equals seven days. Day of rest is called Sabbath. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. On the seventh day God ended His work which He had made. God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because in it He had rested from all His work which He created and made.

1. Week of Weeks is Seven Weeks

Starts at the feast of the First Fruits and ends at Feast of Pentecost.

2. Week of Months is Seven Months

Starts first day of Passover and continues through the Feast of Tabernacles. The Jewish year starts in the middle of the month. The beginning of their year is March 14th.

3. Week of Years is Seven Years

Takes us into the Sabbatical year, when the land was allowed to rest from harvesting.

Leviticus 25:1-7

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses in mount Sinai, saying,

2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land which I give you, then shall the land keep a sabbath unto the LORD.

3 Six years thou shalt sow thy field, and six years thou shalt prune thy vineyard, and gather in the fruit thereof;

4 But in the seventh year shall be a sabbath of rest unto the land, a sabbath for the LORD: thou shalt neither sow thy field, nor prune thy vineyard.

5 That which groweth of its own accord of thy harvest thou shalt not reap, neither gather the grapes of thy vine undressed: for it is a year of rest unto the land.

6 And the sabbath of the land shall be meat for you; for thee, and for thy servant, and for thy maid, and for thy hired servant, and for thy stranger that sojourneth with thee,

7 And for thy cattle, and for the beast that are in thy land, shall all the increase thereof be meat.

Week of Week of Years is Seven Years Seven Times (49 Years) This carried the nation of Israel into the year of Jubilee. This is the time when debts were cancelled, and all servants were set free.

Leviticus 25:8-10

8 And thou shalt number seven sabbaths of years unto thee, seven times seven years; and the space of the seven sabbaths of years shall be unto thee forty and nine years.

9 Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubilee to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land.

10 And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.

Note that the 50th year was the year of setting the captives free. We see the same thing happening with the 50th day of Pentecost; the spiritual captives were set free.

Week of Millenniums is Seven Thousand Years When the earth is resting and brought to complete peace. We are approaching the end of 6000 years of human history as we know man. Week of Ages is Seven Ages or Dispensations These deal with the methods by which God deals with man during a particular time period. The dispensations can overlap.

NOTE: In order to understand the scriptural timing you will need to know the division of time as written by the Jewish Prophets.

You will also need to understand week of years when we begin to study Daniel.

Daniel 8:13-14

13 Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?

14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.

2300 days works out as follows:

2300 divided by 30 days = 76.66 months or 2300 divided by 360 days = 6.4 years

Revelation 13:5

And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies: and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.

42 months = 1260 days 42 months = 3.5 years

Revelation 12:14

And to the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

Time =1 Year

Times = 2 years

half a time = 6 months

Therefore, it was a total of 3 years and 6 months (3 1/2 years) that the woman was nourished in the wilderness.
