The Kingdom Of Satan

What happened to Adam in the fall? He started out innocent, sinless and perfect in character, disposition and purpose. If any of these things changed regarding Adam, how did they affect the rest of the human race? Here we specifically need to allow the Scriptures to do the talking.

When I began to look up the word fall in many of the biblical study tools, I found it to have various meanings and connotations; to cast out, cease, die, divide, fail, to become a fugitive, inferior, to be judged lost, lying, to be overthrown, overwhelmed and to perish.

The Scriptures declare Satan to be a liar and the father of lies. But what was the original lie? Could it have been, “I will exalt my throne above that of the most high,” or was it his response to Eve, “You shall not die?” Regardless of which came first, they were both lies. In looking at Satan's response to Eve, it is apparent that both Eve and Satan understood death to be a termination of life as well as a separation from God.

Paul writes to the church at Ephesus, Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:(Ephesians 2:2). This word is quite clear. We were the children of disobedience. We were the offspring of Adam. But there is a deeper implication here. We walked according to the prince of the power of the air, according to his spirit that lived inside us. We were under the control of Satan, whether we want to admit it or not. The next verse is even more compelling.

Ephesians 2:3

3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

By nature we were the children of wrath. This is definitely a positional change, moving man from the Kingdom of Light, to the Kingdom of Darkness. It is significant that we focus on the fact that there was a change in the nature of man. This change of nature became evident as Adam began to the father children. The nature of a creature is in his seed. Through occupation the spirit of Satan lived in the seed of the man. Thus he became the father of the human race. Even Jesus declared to the religious rulers of His day, “Ye are of your father the devil.”But Satan is the author of sin and death. How can he produce anything but the same? Consequently, in Satan all die.

There are other Scriptures that bear witness to this.

Hebrews 2:14-15

14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

Romans 5:14

14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

Here we have the attributes of the fallen. Adam and all his offspring were dead in sins and trespasses. They walked according to the course of this world and according to the prince of the power of the air. This prince is Satan. He is the spirit that works in the children of disobedience. Therefore it is evident, when Adam disobeyed God, the spirit of iniquity (sin), entered his body and began to do a work in his members. This can be substantiated by Paul’s writing to the church at Rome.

Romans 7:5

5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, (the affections, emotions, afflictions, the suffering of hardship and pain of sin) which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

In creating the world, the first thing God said was, “Let there be light.” When Adam allowed sin to enter the world, death and darkness came with it.

Man lived in a world that was completely perverted and off course. It was controlled by Satan and all his principalities. It had become the kingdom of darkness.

St. Luke 4:5-6

5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.

From the Scripture above we can see that the devil spoke to Jesus about all the kingdoms of the earth being in his power. In both accounts of the temptation we do not see where Jesus denied Satan had this kind of power. In fact, the contrary is true. Throughout His ministry Jesus acknowledged Satan as the prince of this world. This means that he was a ruling principality. The earth had been handed to him on a silver platter.

We know that Satan and many other satanic principalities have their abode in the heavens or heavenly places. However, earth has become a part of the kingdom of Satan. It was given to him by Adam. But Satan is the prince of darkness, in him is no light. He is the father of lies, and in him is no truth. This kingdom is one of sin and death, evil and ungodliness. These are the attributes of his kingdom and his subjects, which include the entire race of man. But when one is born into darkness which is an absence of light, it becomes very difficult to see the darkness as darkness. Jesus testified of this.

St. John 3:19

19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

I am trying so desperately to show you that this world is a part of the kingdom of darkness. All that is in the world is the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. This is the reality we live in. But it should be no secret to us. The Scriptures have clearly defined this environment to be one of hostility and a vexation to the Sons of God. Nevertheless, man has lived in this world since the beginning of time. And, yes, he loves the world he and Satan have created for him to dwell in.

Of the Devil…

John writes, He that commits sin is of the devil, for the devil sinneth from the beginning. It was for this purpose that the Son of God was manifest; that he might destroy the works of the devil (I John 3:8). Listen to this very closely; he that commits sin is of the devil and it was for this purpose that Jesus came. We must not ignore the connotation here. What does “of the devil” really mean? It is obvious that this is a positional change as well as one of disposition.

Paul wrote to Timothy saying he should not place a novice over the house of God, lest being lifted up with pride he falls into the condemnation of the devil (I Tim 3:6). Now this is a significant scripture relative to our subject matter. It talks about the condemnation of the devil. Condemnation comes from the word condemned. Is the apostle Paul making reference to the fact that those who are full of pride can fall into the same judgment as that of the devil? If so, what is the condemnation of Satan? I think the following scripture bears witness of this school of thought.

Isaiah 14:9-11

9 Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.

10 All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us?

11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.

Satan is condemned and one day will be brought down into the pit of hell. This is his judgment and it will surely come to pass. Now those who sin against God will enter into the same judgment or condemnation. Moreover, Satan is the prince of the darkness of this world. Those who choose to sin, walk in the same darkness as that of unbelievers and satanic powers. With this all being said, I think we need to go further into the matter and see that the “condemnation of Satan” also implies that Satan is the source of such condemnation.

The earth is filled with darkness and death. All the generations of Adam are creatures of darkness and death. They are all subjects in the kingdom of Satan. In many instances, those who reside in the kingdom of Satan do not realize they are wretched and lost. The god of this world has blinded them to the truth. But when Jesus came on the scene, He declared another kingdom was at hand. He called it the Kingdom of Heaven.
