Chapter 1: I’m in the Wrong Body

Let us start this discussion with the subject matter being about the millions of unsaved men or women who live their lives as homosexuals. And yes, I know that there are some born-again believers who struggle with this temptation as well. But we will get to them in a later chapter.

“Why do I feel as if I am trapped in the wrong body?” That is the question the gay community is asking. And that is the question the church must answer. The first thing we need to identify is the validity of the question. Is it possible for one to believe and feel this way, or is this just another excuse for living the lifestyle they have chosen? Let us look at this one step at a time. The implications of this question are:

1. I live in a body that is of the male or female gender, but I have sexual feelings for those of my same sex.

2. These feelings are not things I manufactured in my mind. I can feel physical sexual urges in my body.
3. I did not seek after these emotions and desires, they seemed to have overtaken me.

This is the heart cry of many who do not understand what is happening to them. If the church is God’s answer to the ills of this world, then it must be true and decisive in its addressing of this matter.

A man or woman living in a body that seems to betray them, does not understand it is the soul who uses the body to live out its desires. They are not aware of the make-up of the human being. If they have not been in a church that teaches body, soul, and spirit, then they are completely ignorant of the triune nature of mankind. That having been said, the body is simply the dwelling place God created for the soul God created. This is important for the church to understand because it too, has failed at distinguishing body, soul, and spirit.

Ezekiel 18:4

Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

Let us maintain the context of the knowledge we have learned. The body is without the power of want, preference, desire, or emotion. These are products of the soul; which use the body to express itself; for the body without the spirit is dead (James 2:26). When God made Adam, He used the clay or “dust of the earth,” to make the body first. However, it remained immobile, lying there on the ground, until God blew the breath of life (oxygen) into it. Now if the body is not alive without the soul, then it is the soul that is accountable for what it lives out in the flesh. It is a certainty that the body will return to the ground from whence it was taken; but the soul will live on in eternity with God or in eternal damnation.

Now for those of you who are not born-again, I hope you can understand the point I am trying to make here. Humanity is not defined by its human body alone. Man is a triune being, (three-in-one).

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, (Body); and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

When God made man, He blew the breath of life into him … and man became a living soul (Gen.2:7). The soul is spirit and needs a body to experience life on planet Earth. Those of us who have been born-again know these facts, but it seems they are forgotten when we deal with the LGBT community.

But I think the most important thing to remember is the soul, not the body, will stand before God in the judgment to give account for the deeds done in the flesh. The scripture below confirms this fact.

Job 33:27-30

27 He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;

28 He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.

29 Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,

30 To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.

The bottom line is it is the soul that feels trapped in the wrong body. It is the soul that is tormented by sexual urges and emotions for the those of the same gender. And it is the soul who must deal with the scripture above. Now I am going to introduce another reality that the church must be willing to embrace if it is to minister to the homosexual and transgender community. As stated in one of the scriptures above, ‘all souls belong to God.’ He made every soul that will ever live on planet Earth. Now that we understand that mankind is body, soul, and spirit, we have laid the beginning of the foundation on which these teachings will stand. And if we are to truly discuss the world of the homosexual, then we must first define the term itself. This we will do in a later chapter. Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine… (Ezekiel 18:4). The soul and spirit are the inward invisible parts of man. They are spirit and intangible in the natural world. But as we have established, it is the soul and spirit that are so intertwined that they can only be separated by the Word of God. This spiritual part of man is eternal and will live on after the death of the human body.

Nevertheless, God placed the soul in a human body, as it pleased Him. It is the human body that has gender,

but it is the soul that is expressed in the flesh. Therefore, if a man expresses a desire to be with another man, then that is the desire of the soul, not the body. The soul creates desire and lust in the flesh, not the other way around. The body is forced into submission by the craving for a pleasure the soul wants to experience. But you must bear in mind that it is the soul as well as the body that is under captivity. The soul and conscience (spirit) are both under the influence of the spirit of iniquity. Thus, it is the soul that feels trapped and longs for a body that is equal to its desires.

Your takeaway from this chapter should be the knowledge of the following:

1. Due to the way God made us; placing the desires and emotions in the soul, your body could not betray you unless it was under the power of something more powerful than it; whether that be your soul, or the spirit of iniquity, which belongs to satan. But please note, the power of iniquity can create desires in the flesh regardless of the will of the soul.
2. Your soul is conflicted, confused, and tormented by this entity that has the power to seduce your body, soul, and spirit.

You are not crazy. What you feel is physical and immensely powerful. And if you have lived the life of a homosexual, then part of your conflict is the pleasure you have experienced, in spite of that faint voice within that says, “This is wrong.” If the sound of that voice is haunting you, then I invite you to continue reading this book and discover the identity of the power that has you trapped in a fleshy prison.
