Chapter 6

man and the law There is nothing that can be compared to the wisdom of the Father. My heart is greatly comforted because I know we are in the midst of His will. Everything as it relates to time has already been seen by the Father’s eyes. It is by His foreknowledge that he has orchestrated the events and dispensations in which he would relate to man.

THE BODY AND THE SOUL

Genesis 2:7

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

The word 'formed' refers to the body. The scripture above outlines two main parts of man. The body was made from the dust of the ground but his soul was made from air.

Houses all feelings, emotions, sentiments, likes, and dislikes and these are expressed through the body. Generates thoughts; houses the conscience Adam was a soul that was given a body to express himself in a physical environment. Adam could feel the water, smell the flowers and taste fruits because his soul was given a body to do so. If Adam did not have a body he would not have had access to the earth, because the earth is a physical realm. Seeing that the innerman is spiritual, Adam therefore needed a physical body to have access to the physical realm. The body was strictly for that cause

– access. It is the soul that is the real person, but the body gives the soul an opportunity to experience the earth.

It is the soul that has likes and dislikes, not the body. Consider: Jill and Tom are both human beings. Jill loves mangoes; however, Tom doesn’t. The difference between Jill and Tom is not the tongue and its taste buds, because the anatomy of the tongue is the same for both. Rather it is the soul of Jill that loves mangoes and the soul of Tom that doesn’t.

When a human dies, the body is left behind. If we go to a coffin and yell at the body, it will not be offended or hurt. If we try to seduce the body, it will not respond. If we try to inflict pain or harm to the body, it will not feel anything. It is the presence of the soul in the body that brings life to the body (Jam 2:26). The inverse is also true, it is the presence of the soul in a body that brings life to the soul here on earth. That is why Adam was made a living soul; his soul was made alive when it entered a body.

I hope we have done sufficient recap in order to move forward. At this point I would like to define a term which we often use; touching.

TOUCH – to be in contact with something Understanding this word is imperative if we are going to understand the spiritual anatomy of mankind.

The body is clothing for the soul. This means the soul is completely clothed in flesh; completely submerged in flesh. The soul cannot directly touch the earth; the soul cannot touch or feel the earth because it is in the body. The soul can only directly contact the body, the body, however, touches the earth.

For instance, your bone does not touch something that you hold, but your skin does. Your bone touches your skin; your bones are inside of your flesh, but it is not directly touching the thing that you hold. This is the same concept as it relates to the soul inside the flesh; the soul is inside the flesh, but the flesh is what touches the earth and feels after it. The soul touches the flesh and the flesh alone. The soul is made from the air; it is invisible and that is why it was given a body. The soul can be identified by its body, as the body gives the soul a visual representation. The body is the image of the soul.

THE FALL OF MAN

After Adam ate the fruit, the spirit of death entered his flesh even as the Lord said it would. This spirit caused Adam to be spiritually and physically separated from God. God could no longer fellowship with His man in the cool of the day. But the presence of Satan (the spirit of death/iniquity/disobedience) in the flesh had doomed him and his seed forever. In order for the souls of men to ever have fellowship with God again they would have to be made into completely new creatures.

Every seed will produce after its kind, therefore the seed of Adam would produce even as he was. All that would stem from him would be born in sin and shaped in iniquity, even as his body had now become the shape of iniquity.

It is important for us when ministering this to relay the fact that humanity is born in sin as a reality, it is not by any action done by us. However, we inherited sin from our father, Adam who was possessed with the devil. Every person who would therefore stem from Adam, would also house the devil, according to the law of seed.

It is important that we see the change in the spiritual anatomy of man. When Satan entered Adam, he possessed the flesh and bounded the soul. He now had a presence in the flesh. Let us remember that the flesh was the soul’s only means of access to the earth; however, the very means of access was now corrupt. The soul was trapped in a spiritually defective body. There was no way for the soul to ever please God, because Satan became one with the flesh. He doomed man by remaining in the flesh, because it was his presence that caused the separation in the first place. Not only did he remain in the flesh but he produced a law of sin to work in the flesh, causing the soul to be captive to unrighteousness.

Let us look at the effect of the presence of the enemy in the flesh and the workings of the law of sin and death.

romans 6:20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.

Hebrews 10:22

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

Satan had defiled the conscience, freeing us from righteousness. Man therefore had no knowledge of the righteousness of God. No man could simply try his best to be holy and accomplish it. Sin was now familiar and natural for mankind. Sin was an alive force in the children of men, and it was their master, even unto this present day.

1 tHessalonians 4:3-5

3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:

4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;

5 Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:

Let us get back to the fall of man. As it relates to the Gentiles who know not God, they experience the lust of concupiscence working in the flesh. Evil concupiscence refers to a strong insatiable craving for sin. This created the “when I would do good evil is present syndrome.” The spirit of iniquity would lead the flesh into all manner of sin and the soul was indeed weak to it. What great bondage! romans 5:12-14

12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

13 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

Let us not forget that the spirit of iniquity robbed Adam and his line of the knowledge of true righteousness and holiness. They multiplied upon the face of the earth even as evil serpents; but God simply winked at the sin of those generations. God sent the law that Israel might live by it. Let us consider some of these things. deuteronomy 27:26 Cursed be he that confirmeth not all the words of this law to do

them. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Galatians 3:10

For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse:for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

Galatians 5:3

For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.

James 2:10

For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

The Ten Commandments and the statutes of the law came to the Jews. Nevertheless, they were still in sin. The offering of gifts and sacrifices could not make those who did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience. Why then did God send the law knowing men could not totally perform it? romans 7:5-7

5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

The scripture said sin worked by the law to bring forth fruit unto death. The law was not sinful. It was righteous and holy. The law was sent to reveal the righteousness of God to mankind. Man did not know it was the righteousness of God that a man not covet, nor lust. However, the law brought that knowledge to mankind. Man now had an understanding of what to do in order to please God. However, based on the spiritual anatomy of man, we know that Adam’s children could not live holy; because of the presence of the spirit of iniquity in the flesh. However the law was sent to reveal to mankind, that there was another law, that was inside them that was contrary to the law of God (the law of sin and death). romans 7:8

8 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.

The occasion the scripture speaks of here refers to the opportunity the soul now has to do righteousness having received the knowledge of the righteousness of God (by the law). However, the devil (sin) would use that as an occasion to show the soul that he was the stronger one. A strongman in the flesh. It doesn’t matter how much the soul desired righteousness, it was simply too weak to overpower the devil and his law of sin.

Sin was dead without the law, because man did not know that their deeds were evil until the law explicitly told them so. But now having received the law, if a man sin, it would be even worse because now they have the knowledge of what sin truly is. romans 7:9-13

9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

10 And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.

11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.

13 Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful. God sent the law to reveal the spirit of iniquity in the flesh. The law of the mind, refers to the soul’s authority over the flesh. Man is a living soul and the body was given to him for his life here on earth. However, without Adam even realizing it; the devil had entered his flesh, and his seed would be passed unto all Adam’s children. The law the devil produced in the flesh, superceedes the law of the mind. So even though the soul believes he has complete authority over the flesh, he doesn’t as it relates to sin. romans 7:14-18

14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.

17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

In the flesh of the unbeliever dwells the spirit of iniquity – Satan. It is the intent of the enemy to remain hidden in the flesh of the unbeliever. He never wants them to know that he is in them

controlling their actions and decisions. This is why the sending of the law was so important. God sent the law that he might expose to mankind the presence of the devil in them. Having heard the righteousness of God, it became the delight of their souls to obey him; however, Satan would use their new desire as an occasion to overpower them and bring them into sin. romans 7:19-24

19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

This is the conclusion that every unsaved person must come to in order to receive the Holy Ghost. I NEED DELIEVERANCE. Paul brings the revelation showing us exactly what we needed deliverance from–our bodies. Our bodies were bodies of sin. Our souls were stuck in vessels that were defiled, and promised us death. Hence, there is hope for this wretched man.

Romans 7:25

I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. The body of Jesus Christ is what has freed us from the bondage of the body of sin. I would like to make it clear after Paul stated we are delivered through Jesus Christ he returns to the point he was making throughout the chapter; that an unsaved man would with the mind serve God but with the flesh the law of sin. romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

In order to get saved we had to come to the place where we wanted God more than life. We had to be willing to lose our life that we might find a new life. We prayed in the 24th verse, God deliver me from this body of death, but save my soul. Our petition to the Father to save us, was our offering of our bodies as a sacrifice.

The body was atoned with the law of sin and death, it was a body of sin. We offered that to the Father, that he might destroy it and in turn save our souls. However, our salvation must be proven and read of all men and angels. We must show forth the life of Christ on this earth. Therefore, the atoned flesh we offered as a sacrifice, was crucified with Christ, but then it was risen by Christ, by him entering the body. The soul is no longer in the flesh, but it is in the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:9).

Once again we see a change in the spiritual anatomy. Now the spirit is in the flesh and the soul is in the spirit. The Holy Spirit is touching the flesh. The flesh is now the Holy Spirit’s expression of life here on earth. He can walk and talk among us. He is the Emannuel– God with us. As it pertains to the soul, he is hidden in the Spirit. He is touching the Spirit. Now the soul’s means of expression is Christ. romans 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The soul offered the body as a sacrifice in order to become saved. However, the soul was never given a body to live through. Christ was the one who was given a body. To the soul the body is still dead, because it (the soul), was forever removed from the flesh. Now the soul lives unto the Spirit in which it lives. However, the flesh did not stay dead, it was quickened by the presence of Christ in it. Therefore, the sacrifice of our body that we gave at salvation is a living sacrifice, because it is dead unto us, but alive unto Christ. The law which the Israelites read is no longer outside the flesh; now, it is written on the fleshy tables of their hearts by the ink of the Spirit. Now they do by nature the things contained in the law, because they have received the life of Christ, who is the Word of God.
