Chapter 4: The Seven Trumpets: A Detailed Look

The sounding of the seven trumpets in the Book of Revelation marks a period of intense divine judgments unleashed upon the earth. While the Apostle John recorded these events in great detail, the same judgments can be found echoed throughout the Bible—especially in the writings of the Old Testament prophets.
In this chapter, we will examine each of the seven trumpets in detail, pairing them with corroborating scriptures. These scriptures confirm that God has always testified of the judgments He would bring upon the earth. And though John’s account is rich in detail, these additional passages take us even deeper, offering a more vivid and comprehensive understanding of the events to come.
TRUMPET 1
Revelation 8:7
The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.

3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.
4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.
5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.
6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.
7 And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men.
8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions.
9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.
10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.
11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

4 And the Lord said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.
5 And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity:
6 Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house.

Revelation 9:13–21
13 And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God,
14 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates.
15 And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.
16 And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.
17 And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.
18 By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.
19 For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.
20 And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
21 Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.
- Four angels bound at the Euphrates River are released.
- They lead a massive unnatural army of 200 million horsemen.
- Their mission:To kill a third of humanity.
- The army has terrifying features (fire, smoke, and brimstone from their mouths).
- Despite the devastation, humanity does not repent of their idolatry, murders, sorcery, fornication, or theft.

Joel 2:1-11
1 Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the Lord cometh, for it is nigh at hand;
2 A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.
3 A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.
4 The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run.
5 Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array.
6 Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness.
7 They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks:

11 And the Lord shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the Lord is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?

INTERLUDE A: The Mighty Angel and the
Little Book — Revelation 10:1–11
- A mighty angel descends from heaven, holding a little open book.
- He stands on the sea and land, swears by God that there will be no more delay.
- When the seventh trumpet sounds, the mystery of God will be finished.

- John is told to eat the little book:
- It’s sweet in his mouth, but bitter in his stomach symbolizing the mixed message of prophecy—both blessing and judgment.
- He must prophesy again before many peoples, nations, tongues, and kings.

Rebuilding of the Temple
Revelation 11:1-2
1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.
2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. INTERLUDE B: The Two Witnesses — Revelation 11:1–14

TRUMPET 7
Revelation 11:15–19
- The seventh angel sounds the trumpet, declaring: “The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ” (v.15).
- Loud voices in heaven announce Christ’s eternal reign.
- The 24 elders worship, giving thanks to God for taking His great power and beginning to reign.
- God’s wrath is coming, the time for judging the dead, rewarding the righteous, and destroying those who destroy the earth.
- The temple of God in heaven opens; the ark of His testament is seen.
- Lightning, thunder, earthquake, and great hail follow.
56The Woman, the Child, and the Dragon (Rev 12)
- A woman clothed with the sun (symbolic of Israel or God’s covenant people) gives birth to a man child (Christ).
- A great red dragon (Satan) tries to devour the child.
- The child is caught up to God, and the woman flees into the wilderness for 1,260 days.
- War in heaven: Michael and his angels fight the dragon.
- Satan is cast out of heaven to earth.
- A loud voice declares that salvation and the kingdom have come.
- The dragon persecutes the woman and her seed who keep God’s commandments and have the testimony of Jesus.

The Beast from the Sea (Rev 13)
- Has 7 heads and 10 horns with blasphemous names.

- One head was wounded and healed — the world marvels and worships the beast.
- He speaks great blasphemies, makes war with the saints, and overcomes them.
- Authority is given for 42 months.

From the writings of Moses and the prophets to the words of Christ Himself, God has provided a consistent and multi-faceted testimony of the judgments that will come upon the earth. God’s plan of redemption and judgment has been unfolding since the beginning. These events have been documented, and it is our responsibility to diligently search the Scriptures and find them, for they are given to prepare us. Let us be ready, for the time is at hand.
